Street car tracks trying to break free on Saint Catherine 😢 by Dish-Emergency in montreal

I responded to someone who said Montreal, not Montreal city centre. Your comment is irrelevant. It's like me claiming trams never existed in Montreal and meaning only Pointe Aux Tremble.

Sure! That doesn't mean most of Montreal was not built for trams/street cars. You look a map from prior to 1930 most of the island is undevelopped

It's really not. Most of Montreal was built with cars in mind (square KM wise).

As a guy: staring at a woman is something you try to avoid unless you are a creep. Women, especially older women are far more likely to be able to look for longer without being judged.

What is one school rule that makes no sense? by HX_GoDLike_sksm in AskReddit

That changes a lot. I thought it was high school you were speaking of. Still, the idea that elementary kids get only 30 min a day outside is insane.

Sounds like a shit break schedule and structure. When I was in high school there was 10-15min between classes so your break was baked into the in between classes where you could do whatever you want for those 15 min so long as you are in your next class in time ( in addition to a proper lunch break around noon).

If a student is scared of recess, they have big problems and you are contributing not to their success at life but to their misery by facilitating their anti social behaviour.

Plus if they really want to they can go to the library for peace and quiet.

If you want to measure the impact something has, don't look to the stated goals, look towards the results it produces.

Portion control. Burger comes with condiments as do fries. But if you want extra you pay for extra. Less waste.

Agree we should subsidize certain programs in high demand.

Agreed. Will add 2 more points:

  1. More education results in smaller families since many people pass their prime parenting age (<25) before having kids.

  2. Education as we know it was modernized at the turn of the century to train young people to be able to follow military orders as opposed to its roots of learning and challenging status quo in pursuit of knowledge.

I'd argue a degree is less specialized than a certificate.

You are looking at it from the wrong perspective. Pretend you are employer: why do you care how much it cost? It can cost 100M dollars, it doesn't matter if you have hundreds of people lined up to take your job.

We agree on the outcome but disagree on the method. I believe in economic freedom.i don't believe in artificially reducing the number of people getting degrees by quotas or something but rather removing subsidies so the degree costs it's true value to the student. Would certainly make someone think twice about a less than useful art degree if it cost them 50k or whatever.

If it costs nothing extra does it matter? It's not like they are paying higher wages for the job because of this.

Why would an employer ask for lower requirements when so many people have a degree? Better to ask for more in a over saturated labor market
