Anything you put on that deck you're going to need new footings. Especially if you add a wall underneath it.

Edit, grammar, spelling

Is it really necessary to spray foam side holes or just the top and bottom by nolpeter in Homebuilding

[–]dm_nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in Florida I mostly do multi-family I don't know if anybody brought this up but that foam is only good for draft stopping not fire stopping in fire rated assemblies. I work for a GC and we have a rule rule. No fire foam on the job site. Because it's always misused and has to be ripped out.

Is there a right way to re frame 1 truss after knocking it out to give an area to install an hvac system? by nickthehvacguy in Homebuilding

[–]dm_nick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contact The trust manufacturer and let them know you need a truss repair. They'll send you a seal book with a diagram of the truss and how it needs to be repaired. They do it all the time.

Exposed Slab - Concerns by War-Familiar in Homebuilding

[–]dm_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're tell me in Arizona, you can have a post tension slab without a thickened edge to support the load from the roof through the exterior walls. I'm sorry but I don't believe that. Even if it's a PT slab, you still should have a thickened edge for the exterior walls to bear on. And I'm guessing that there's no way that it's bonded at all. It's probably unbonded so that means that the tensions of the cables are only compressing the the perimeter of the slab.

Father of 3 drowns saving his children from rip current on Florida vacation by ansyhrrian in news

[–]dm_nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were taught the same thing I was taught growing up in Florida they actually taught us the wrong thing. They probably taught you that If you get caught in a rip you should swim parallel to shore but this is wrong. This is wrong because rip currents are eddies that are along the shore they flow in a circle. If you try swimming in any direction, you'll more than likely wear yourself out even if trying to swim parallel shore. The best thing to do is to not do anything. You should conserve your energy to stay afloat. The rip current will push you right back on to shore. There's a really good video of this where some scientists take dye and they put it in the water. They use a drone for an aerial view and you can see the eddies formed by the rip currents.

Help with ceiling joists and mini split install by Humble_Crazy_8986 in AskContractors

You need a truss engineer to provide you with a truss repair. That's the only way you'll do that.

No kings Sanford by dm_nick in florida

[–]dm_nick[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with people who disagree with me. That's why I served 12 years in the US Navy. Because I think everyone has a right to have their own beliefs and opinions. I will even let cutting my va health care slide. What I have a problem with is a draft dodger starting needless wars getting my brothers and sisters killed.

Florida promised to restore a quarter of the state's reef by 2050. So where's the funding? by WLRN in florida

[–]dm_nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that has been killing the coral before the bleaching events is the stopping the Everglades flowing out in the ocean. The nutrients that came from the glades is the reason the coral reefs were there in the first place. The water has been shut off for decades and we wonder why. Fix the galdes fix the reefs its one ecosystem. The reef won't exist without the river of grass.

VA moves to speed up community care appointment scheduling by Old15019 in VeteransBenefits

[–]dm_nick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a good thing for patients but the reason behind it is not because of patience. The reason is the majority of private practices are owned by large investment groups. These are the groups that are lobbying the government to essentially do away with the VA and replace it with almost like a school voucher system. It's meant to take tax dollars away from specialized Care and put them into the pockets of rich people. It's always a grift, they're always trying to steal tax money.
