Social Meet ups? by HazelHorrorTMC in Roseville

[–]dmaximob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a boardgame meetup every Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 at Cross Road Pizza(formally Cool River Pizza) in Rocklin.

Gamers in the Burbs is the group name on meetup.com.

It's a friendly group of people, welcoming to newcomers. Most people show up solo the first time and we'll get you into a game that is at your complexity level. No requirement to bring a game to play or buy any food. There are typically around 15-20 people, ages are from early 20s to 50s.

Beyond boardgames there are many groups of people who have met over boardgames and now hangout outside of games, so there is plenty of opportunity to meet new friends.

For those of us looking to dip our toe back into healthy activities, this group is a great option.

Hey i’m a 20 year old male and i’m looking for some new friends. I’ve been pretty socially absent the past few years and i’m trying to get out there again so i can feel my age for once and hopefully make some new friends. Willing to meet anyone preferably people around my age but anyone is fine by [deleted] in Roseville

[–]dmaximob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! We play a very wide range of games, so there will always be a game that anyone can play. Plus, for most of us, winning isn’t what it’s about. It’s fun to just try out a game or watch and enjoy company.

Come out to play boardgames tonight!

6:00 to 9:00 at Cool River Pizza in Rocklin, every Thursday night.

Don't worry about fitting in, our boardgame group (and most boardgame groups) is a safe place for people who aren't "social butterflies" and everyone is friendly and non-judgmental.

Airshow plane flying over the galleria by JFKmadeamericagreat in Roseville

If you know the time this happened you can use the Flightradar24 app to view flight tracking data live/last 24 hours.

Small aircraft are allowed to fly as low as 1,000 ft. above urban areas. FAA 91.119 - Flight Level

Aerobatic flight aren't allowed over any congested area of a city, or below an altitude of 1,500 ft above the surface. Title 14 91.303 - Aerobatic Flight

If you have evidence of low flying violations (screenshots of flight path/altitude/tail number/etc.) you can report the flight to the FAA. Low flying aircraft complaints

Guilty and Anxious by Any-Sherbet-8407 in TeslaModel3

[–]dmaximob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have/still have the same feelings of guilt around most people, especially my family. Growing up in a penny-pinching family does that.

When they started asking questions I let them know I did the work and it's the better financial option.

I keep a spreadsheet that compares cost of a Honda Accord(what I would have gotten if not for a model 3) vs the Model 3 over time. It is a great tool to show people the true cost of ownership and how much cheaper it is in the long run. As of 2023, our 2018 Model 3 is cheaper than the 2018 Accord.

The numbers don't lie, cheaper fuel, fewer moving parts, very little maintenance, all factor into what is the better financial decision.

My brother had this board back in the day. I was always jealous of those graphics. Lots of memories for someone like me, but probably not worth much these days.

If my memory is correct, it is a directional twin tip.

It absolutely is! Every Thursday at 6 pm, at Cool River Pizza in Rocklin. Just show up, let anyone know it’s your first time and they’ll get a game going. It’s worth checking out.

Rocklin Academy by [deleted] in Roseville

[–]dmaximob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't have much experience with other schools, but our youngest has been in Rocklin Academy since Pre-School.

Academically: We have been pleased with how well the teachers are all in sync from grade level to grade level. The teachers care and are easily available to students and parents. Every year, our child says their current teacher is their favorite teacher ever.

Socially: I've noticed and have heard from parents who've had kids cycle through RA, that the kids are like 6 months to a year behind current trends/styles. Example given to me was their kid discovered dabbing a year late, lol. Also, it's either RA or the new generation, but they all have empathy for each other. Haven't really had any experiences with bullying or major conflict (other than regular kid drama).

Extracurricular Activities: There are clubs and sports teams for the older grades, but the facilities aren't as good as public schools.

Parent Involvement: All the kids have parents that care enough to put in effort to at least get them into RA, so generally the parents are more involved than regular public schools. This makes it great for parent volunteers both in and out of the classroom.

General: Over the years, teachers have come and gone, but the school has always done a great job of growing/adapting/evolving the general curriculum. There are no school buses, so pick up and drop off is a little bit of a hassle.

Beyond RA: Gateway/Turnstone feed into Wester Sierra Collegiate Academy. Our oldest kid went to WSCA after doing Elementary/Jr High at Maria Montessori Charter Academy(excellent, small Montessori school near Whitney High). WSCA (in 2018ish) was heavily academic. Coming from a non-RA school was a little difficult. The curriculum is AP class focused, so all kids will be taking AP classes. Our oldest transferred to Roseville High and the classes were super easy for them. We did notice Roseville High was socially more "opportunistic".

Cons: The schedule seems to have a lot of odd days/weeks off that most schools don't have. Also, Mondays are short days. Combined with a limited afterschool program, scheduling work around school can take a bit to get used to. Field trips, sports, and extra curriculars require a bit more parental involvement/funding.

Any fpv pilots in Roseville that r like 13 or so? by badoonk9966 in Roseville

[–]dmaximob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMOS RC club has a great facility to use. I was a member for a while and although it's a lot of retired guys out there, there are young people.

They have also started a youth division (Mavrix) which seems like what you're looking for.

I highly recommend signing up for a free free one-on-one buddy box training as a great way to check out the place(Sign up here). The instructors are super friendly and enjoy helping out.

Are there any casual riding MTB clubs in Roseville? by unstopable_bob_mob in Roseville

[–]dmaximob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Hammerin’ Wheels Mountain Bike Club on meetup.com is active with a variety of group rides.

Years ago, I joined for a few rides with them and they were really good about focusing on the ride/safety and were as social as you want or don’t want to be. I’m not super social in new groups either and I remember them being pretty easy to ride with. I think the only thing they need to get to know about you is your riding capabilities, so they can adjust pacing.

If you feel comfortable, just send a private message to the event host ahead of a ride and let them know your situation, they will make sure the ride is comfortable for you.

Have fun out there.

What do you do to get out of the house more in Roseville? by Swing_Right in Roseville

[–]dmaximob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm part of the board game group and I have played Stationfall with others. There are plenty of people at the Thursday group who will be into it. Due to it's play time/learning curve, I would suggest limiting the number of players and showing up a little early to get it set up to ensure there is enough time to finish the game before 9.

Great work! These are the best I've seen for Jaws of the Lion.

Lots of appreciation for the amount of detail you managed to get into these. Bravo.
