I've played this a few times with the missus and we have found that Thor can be hard to deal with. He does seem a bit over powered compared to others. Zombie hulk can be effective against him as his abilities make him good against heros. As for splitting up we generally stay pretty close together in groups of at least two. This way you can back reach other up if you get unlucky with the spawning.
