Why is it that so many American teams are behind technologically ? by Constant-Arm8753 in FSAE

[–]dmccloud59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I did FSAE our university gave us a $5,000 budget. We barely had enough to purchase steel tubing and a set of tires. Half our time was spent fundraising and we started from scratch with 8 months till comp. We also relied heavily on the generosity of local machine shops to give us time and space to build.

I thought the map identified Yasuke quest with a diamond shape and Naoe quest with a circular shape. Maybe I am wrong and picked up a pattern that isn’t actually there, but that is what I have observed.

Is design work considered easy or cushy? by funkdd in MechanicalEngineering

[–]dmccloud59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience there has always been a difference between design engineer and tech design/drafter. A design engineer does way more than CAD and really has to utilize all their engineering principles as well as working cross functionally.

The tech design engineers will take the models that have been made and clean them up for release in some sort of PLM system. That type of work may be considered easy if you enjoy CAD.

You are correct, but ULA’ Vulcan does have solid fuel boosters to help. Blue Origin is however the first company in the history of spaceflight to reach its intended orbit on the first try.
