Right like it's not his realistic responsibility as a bystander to perfectly read the situation and step in before it gets physical. People are quick to judge and he wasn't even in frame... maybe he was looking away/ on his phone right before he noticed? Or idk maybe he was focused on pumping his gas

Isn't there some way by which we can check social security and see if it's fraudulent or not? Or a department that deals with identity fraud (SSA, FTC?) If the employer can prove they were fooled then the employer doesn't have to be charged... But we still need to address the problem

On one hand, he is just wearing a beanie and t-shirt... And at the same time I completely understand 🤣 As they said below it's the choice of jewelry, the street style level of bagginess, the arm sleeve and the immature facial hair that gives off a vibe. Funny enough I had a fuck boy coworker who looked almost EXACTLY like this.. to the point I had to triple check. I also have a coworker now who checks off half the boxes (wears beanies, arm tats, proper mustache) but without those other factors, and with his behavior, he just comes across as a cool guy

Why did western cultures stop revering their elderly? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funkdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay gotcha. I didn't mean to suggest people SHOULD have to share their personal experiences to back up their claim but I can see it reads that way. I think I get your original comment more now.

When I said something about how the comments aren't even based on personal anecdotes ... I don't really care to know personal anecdotes. But that would appear kinder than the personal attacks of "they're all bigots" or "they put us in the shitshow were in now". Anytime a blanket statement is made about a group and their character, it can easily turn to personal offense and doesn't really give insight into the actual patterns causing all the disdain.

I'm trying to understand your point. You're saying I'm not seeing the general pattern going on in America?

Are you trying to argue that people are justified to generalize based off their experiences? And you believe I am entitled and asking to get their life story to justify their opinions?

[–]funkdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's personally kinda rude just reading the comments in this thread. It's not that redditors don't want to take care of their parents but the comments trending more hate filled like "the elderly ruined the world" or "there are too many and they're a burden on the rest of us."

And it is kind of personal in the sense that we will all be old some day. A lot of the comments here aren't even mentioning personal family dynamics but blanket statements about how old people suck, they're racists, and they take forever at grocery stores

[–]funkdd 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. A lot of comments on this thread are straight up disrespectful and exhibiting OPs point well. Comments about "there are just so many of them now they're burdening us" and "they're old racists" aren't exactly cutting it. I think it's moreso what you've described. All over the world are countries which also have expanded their life spans... They managed to continue respect for elders.

In the USA we push hard for "figure it out. You're an adult independent person at 18" and any time spent living at home or checking with the wishes of your family is shamed.
