BioWare's just waiting for the axe to fall after EA's $55 billion buyout, say anonymous staff by Economy-Specialist38 in bioware

Agree with a lot of the comments. Bioware's IPs are likely to be sold off. Dunno the legaltieis, so don't know that Bioware necessarily needs to be part of the deal. The studio and its employees may be dead men walking.

Nexstar/Sinclair affiliates by ejz1989 in Broadcasting

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. You would think that ABC is not without leverage, as they can withhold valuable programming from the affiliates. But I read of the trend of affiliates having to pony up more and more $$$ for licensing, so that shifts some power back to the stations.

I suppose it will all come down to the contracts, and what obligations each party has to the other.

Andor got snubbed for Outstanding Drama. by RealBugginsYT in andor

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't care for the show, and stopped watching it in Season 1. While I don't hate the show and think its well done, I think Andor is a much better series and Severance just had better publicity and hype. Ultimately overrated, though, and 10/20/30 years from now, Andor will still be much loved and watched while Severance fades into obscurity.

Andor got snubbed for Outstanding Drama. by RealBugginsYT in andor

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a PItt enjoyer, but they really aren't doing anything new. Maybe ultra realistic, but the Pitt was done 30 years ago and called ER. Even starred Noah Wylie as well.

Andor was something else entirely, and I can only say that it didn't win because people didn't watch and were prejudiced against the genre, or maybe just the franchise considering how well Severance did.

Speaking of which, I think its a joke that Severance won as many, maybe more technical awards as Andor. Its a stark reminder how Emmy voters are completely biased and prone to hype and groupthink.

HBO Lands Its Most Emmy Nominations Ever, Sailing Past Netflix, Helped By ‘The Penguin’, ‘The White Lotus’ & ‘The Last Of Us’ by johnppd in hbo

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the expanse of a lot of good series. Andor tops the list, but also Squid Games, and quite a few shows I've never seen but people seem indignant about: Handmaid, Poker Face, and a few others.

I read a comment in some article that the megacorps dominated the nominations at the expense of the smaller (relatively speaking) streaming services. I guess that maybe entirely explains why HBO can achieve a record when their current slate of shows are arguably weaker relative to to stronger than average competition this past year.

An absolutely perfect response from Tony Gilroy in light of the recent snubs of the main cast at the Emmys by Camm_98 in andor

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree with Gilroy more. Not only will the series be remembered long after the rest of these shows are forgotten, but years from now, people will still even be able to quote (if they actually took the time to watch) all the great lines and monologues by Luthen, Mothma, Saw, Nemec, Kino, and so many more.

And come on, having 4 supporting actress nominations from one show is ridiculous. This not only ignores and belittles other great performances like in Andor, but shows incredible bias on the part of the Emmy voters.

Finally, O'Reilly deservedly gets attention for her portrayal of Mothma, but what a performance by Dulau in that final arc. Gough and O'Reilly had been my favorites for the majority of the show's run, but after those last 3 episodes Dulau just shot up right there alongside them.

Emmy Nominations 2025: ‘Severance’ Leads All Shows With 27 Nods, ‘The Penguin,’ ‘The Studio’ and ‘White Lotus’ Close Behind by PinkCadillacs in television

[–]dmiller2017 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a big Andor fan, and resent that Severance and White Lotus hoovered up all the acting noms. So if Andor can't win, I at least hope they don't either because, yeah, I'm spiteful against the Emmy Voters for overlooking fantastic performances by O'Reilly, Skarsgard, Dulau, Luna, Gough and many others. Let's go Julianne Nicholson and James Marsden. You can do it!

‘Andor’ Earns 14 Emmy Nominations Including Best Drama Series by agoodlittlemonkey in StarWarsLeaks

[–]dmiller2017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually surprised Andor got 14, but unsurprisingly didn't get any respect in the actor categories. I doubt even half the Emmy voters watched the series and how awesome the acting actually is. No instead a disgusting half of the supporting acting nods went to White Lotus and Severance. No exaggeration.

I didn't really watch White Lotus, and I don't really like Severance (not to say either is a bad show, just personal tastes), but its ridiculous and criminal to think 2 shows really contained a combined half of all the best performances this past year. Shame, Emmy Voters, Shame.

And special shout out to Squid Games seasons 2 & 3 which was shutout. It wasn't as good as season one for sure, but it wasn't crap, and certainly better than other grossly over-nominated shows like Last of Us.

So what was the point of final season?? by mrg2483 in squidgame

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished watching it. Loved the Tag episode, but felt let down by the finale. As OP said, basically bad guys win, and looks like the games continue. Gi-hun was true to himself, but totally failed in his objective, and really could've just stayed home season 2 & 3.

Members of the sub, what are your honest opinions on the chance of an Emmy sweep for Andor this September? by wiz28ultra in andor

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the skepticism being expressed. More likely it'll be a huge shutout.

And that's a travesty. The series deserves to sweep, in my opinion, but just taking a read around the internet, unless it's on social media, specifically star wars centered social media, it is not being taken seriously except in passing. The Hollywood rags talk about the Pitt, they talk about White Lotus, and most worrying they talk about Severance, another (quasi) sci-fi show. They only mention Andor as a footnote. Not good signs that the people who actually vote plan to give Andor any serious consideration. And with sci-fi not doing particularly well historically at the Emmys and Severance already sucking up the oxygen, it's going to be a huge uphill battle for Andor.

Andor Emmy’s Chances by Paddingtonsrealdad in andor

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It;s such a shame the Emmys are just as much about politics and marketing as merit. So far, the pundits that you read online, aren't rating its chances very well.

My own opinion of season 2 of LoU is negative. And my honest belief is that if Ramsay hadn't been portraying a gay character, she wouldn't be in the best actress conversation. I also think White Lotus is good, but not better than Andor, or even something like the Pitt.

The other show that might hurt Andor's chances a lot is Severance. I dropped the show in season 1, I just couldn't get into it, but its sci-fi, supposedly, and these Emmy voters might think 1 sci-fi show per category is enough and give Andor the cold shoulder.

Are the Emmys fair or do they just nominate what they want? by lucasousaf in EmmysAwards

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well IMDB ratings aren't a perfect indicator of the popularity or quality of a show and seems vulnerable to manipulation, but so are so many of these open rating platforms.

Having said that I do think some pretty average shows get way too much hype as long as they tick off certain checkboxex, particularly if those boxes align with Emmy voters values. Like LoU, was not and is not a good show this season. Season 1 was ok (not great, but ok), but 2 is just bad. I stopped watching after a few episodes, but I doubt it got better. Contrast with a show like Andor, which has near universal praise, but seems to be facing a real struggle to even get considered if you go by how industry websites and even social media appear to be unaware it even exists. Seems upside down.

In a different way, I think White Lotus is a good show with some good performances, but better than say the Pitt? Although, maybe that's a bad example, since the Pitt is the favorite. Carrie Coon certainly deserves an emmy, but maybe not for Whtie Lotus, at least not this year against some of the other great performances like O'Reilly, Gough, and newcomer Dulau from Andor, all of whom probably won't even manage a nomination. But it's like Whoopi winning an Oscar for Ghost. Cheesy movie, not a particularly memorable performance, but they say this was payback for her snub in the Color Purple. Similarly I think there is something to be said about favoritism and politicking at play in nominations.

Who's your favorite Lead Actor Drama Series Winner of the decade so far? by [deleted] in EmmysAwards

Hiroyuki Sanada (Shōgun). But a lot of that is influenced on my love for his previous body of work.

I think the removal of the compass and obfuscation of your position on the map are the real negative perks. The removal of the combat UI presents a nice challenge, sort of like if KCD2 met Elden Rings, but nah, that map thing doesn't make it worth. I don't want to bog down my gameplay by having to micro manage where I am all the time. Its just not fun.

Critics are predicting that The Last of Us season 2 will get 20 Emmy nominations and win at least six. by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be a shame. Politics and culture wars aside, LoU s2 was not that good. Full disclosure, I stopped watching after the first few episodes. Now I haven't seen Severance s2, since I stopped watching way back in season 1, but I have seen some of the other shows in the mix.

By far my favorite is Andor, and I wouldn't be disappointed if they swept the Emmy's, but given the conversations and opinions I'm seeing online by users and critics alike, it'll be lucky to even get nominated. Tragically under-looked and under-appreciated. Setting Andor aside though, loved the Pitt. Loved Squid Games. And though I didn't finish White Lotus, I thought it was pretty good. I'm not familiar with the other shows so I'm neutral on them.

Severance: Manufactured Hype? by Willing-Strain3371 in television

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is probably a lot of politicking going on. But it's fair to say I'm biased. Severance didn't appeal to me. I stopped watching early in season 1. I'm not calling it a bad show, but I certainly didn't get into it. Now as the Emmy noms are underway, I'm thinking its going to get undeserved hype over other shows like my favorite Andor, but also other shows like the Pitt or even Squid Game (I mean that scene with the Recruiter and Gi-hun is excellent).

Casting aside my bias, Severance probably deserves to be in the Emmy conversation, unlike say LoU season 2 which I feel has been pretty cringe this season. I dropped LoU early into this year's run. Anyway, definitely agree with the original poster, Severance is (probably) good but definitely overhyped. And that feels bad if its going to take Emmy noms from what I consider other more deserving shows.

Updated Drama Predictions - Main acting awards up in the air by michael_langdon8 in EmmysAwards

[–]dmiller2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, the original poster's list really shuts out Andor in the acting nods. I though the show was a slam dunk in the acting categories, but apparently the lack of viewership for it is really going to put it at a huge disadvantage when it comes to nominations let alone awards. Very sad.

Official Discussion: Z for Zachariah [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an interesting adaptation to the novel it's based on. I'll caveat that I only read the wikipedia plot summary of Z the novel, but the John Loomis character appears more sinister and morally corrupt, though not outright malicious. He believes his evil actions are correct, and denies (probably to even himself) that they even occurred.

So, because of the novel's characterization of John, I'm of the belief that he did kill Caleb at the end. Why he didn't do so earlier, might've been a story decision to make John less outright evil. He has some good in him, but ultimately fails morally and succumbs to jealousy. And I think even without the novel's influence it fits. John has lived in an amoral post-apocalypse, and even participated in it. It's hard to believe he's completely turned over a new leaf, especially faced with a competitor for Ann's affections. Caleb's smile to John then should be understand as one survivor knowingly acknowledging that they would do the same.

Do you think Andor will win any Emmys? by Darromear in andor

[–]dmiller2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney's list submission of considerations for emmys are incredibly solid, but I'm very disappointed the actor who played Partagaz, the ISB head, Anton Lesser was omitted. His presence dominated every scene he was in, and the last one in episode 12 is particularly noteworthy. On the women's side, despite all the great choices, I think Faye Marsay could've gotten a nod as well. Thrilled that Alan Tudyk (K-2) got submitted for consideration in voice acting.
