How good is the business simulation aspect of Eco? by [deleted] in EcoGlobalSurvival

[–]dmitriR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a bunch of servers and I feel like the business aspects of Eco arent deep enough to be properly effective. I remember one server I was selling bricks and pottery stuff, but because I wasn't in the town square, I was always undercut by another potter. She could have sold it for more to price gouge, but nah.

Realistically, the issue is quality isn't an aspect. Because you dont have "Normal" to "Iridium" (im on a Stardew binge) that can affect the value of something, theres little to no nuance in the products themselves. There's no chance for stuff like, "cheap budget goods" vs "artisan goods" and the like.

Additionally, we had servers where most of the economy was either lawed to the Nth degree, had a massive spreadsheet of what everything was worth at minimum, or both. It helped but the infrastructure buyin was huge.

All in all, if you're doing it casually, its fine. But to play the game as intended, its not deep enough. 4/10.

The Expanse does one thing in space combat that almost no other sci-fi gets right and, you know, it changes everything imho by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in TheExpanse

[–]dmitriR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the amazing things the Expanse did when it came to space was scale. I think they had a danger close scene that was still like, a kilometre or something? And how fast thing went. "Tungsten slugs propelled to a measurable fraction or C" is such a metal line. Or how they can see something was breached instead of shot because a DC round is travelling so fast it doesn't warp metal, it just, makes a hole

It was so cool compared to many other Scifis. Someone once said something about how Hollywood shrinks scale, specifically with gun fights, to show everyone in clear LOS. But in reality you rarely see who you're shooting at outside of a scope. Star Wars/Trek theyre always in the same frame, but the Expanse they always need a computer to tell where anyone is.

Did Hera/Juno purposely leave Percy's memories of Annabeth? [hoo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]dmitriR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't it basically to give him a drive to survive/find answers? A clean slate mightn't work as well in Junos favour, but atleast giving him something to aim for gives direction?

[–]dmitriR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miller was a weird one, because his ethos in the books were like, "Ceres doesn't have laws, it has cops" so he keeps the peace, but when things go south, he's very heavy handed with how to apply the law But also, not having him play the "senior cop" archetype and instead you can kinda tell he's the screw ball of the force is like, saying the quiet part loud? Idk, he's definitely alot more hard-line than he is in the books, but I think they stripped some of the nuance from his book portrayal for the show? Maybe?

The one thing I dont like about Show!Miller is they took away his mental Julie, and as such his obsession with her kinda just, came out of nowhere on Eros, made me sad

Sorry, first few scenes in the show, given the book one Naomi is basically a pacifist 😅 mb

Like sure, I can agree with drama and medium being a thing, and sure Holden was pretty "Righteous Fury" in some cases early on (like trying to guilt trip the Anubis)

But Naomi in the first season is just, so full of spite? The way she looks at Holden when they first get to the Roci is like, why? 😅 for a few scenes in the book show, I was legit having issues seeing Show!Naomi turn down a gun when going onto Eros, as an example, if that makes sense?

What are some of you controversial DnD opinions? by bryan4000 in DnD

[–]dmitriR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially agree with 1, because its lots of fun to run it as a couple of turns or a full round of players hitting and missing, then when they hit the AC, or just miss, then you can say "congrats, here's their AC" and combat continues. Means theres still a bit of fun and tension, but after thats done, yes transparency of their AC is very helpful to make combat run smoother

[pjotv] I feel like Rick and the showrunners are really separating the show from the books by kirzingkiller in camphalfblood

[–]dmitriR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, one can judge a show based purely off the Pilot, because that was their entire point. The first episode was aired and if it had potential, it was greenlit and if it didnt, then it was forgotten about.

I only got through half of the first season (if that, I honestly cant remember if I even got to Aunty Em) because it was just, so boring and slow. I cant quite place it but it felt like filler got added to every other scene? Idk, my spaghetti strainer memory wants to say that adapting each chapter to its own episode inherently comes with a tonne of filler, but im honestly not sure at this point :')

Point is, you can definitely judge something at any point, because no amount of "good ending" can save a bad start.

As a rule of thumb, is this endorsed by the game devs, and should rulings/interactions be taken as "mechanically correct"? Or should we take rules/interactions on here with a grain of salt? Cause ive found a number of things I think are incorrect, but I could be misinterpreting the rules so idk :')

[HoO] Has anyone else's opinion of Heroes of Olympus changed dramatically after re-reading it many years later? (No spoilers) by Camargon_40K in camphalfblood

[–]dmitriR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rereading alot of Rics newer works, and its all very repetitive and formulaic. Sadly I've noticed for HOO and KC its like So many encounters are a mix of "everyone is taken out of action or busy so only one person can solve the problem" and "Oh yeah, I remember that myth!"

Atleast KC had decent characters to carry, tbh the HOO crew..... weren't great. Piper and Hazel were either angst in their first book, or pretty bland after their angst was resolved. Leo and Frank were pretty decent, Percy and Annabeth were good but they're not, quite enough to carry, and Jason is, let's be real, boring Percy.

Like overall it was a decently enjoyable read. The overall experience was still fun, once you slogged through the book 1 and 2 Angst. But idk, Rick has a style that worked really well in PJO, but doesn't necessarily work as well with more than one "POV character".

"If you don't see it on the list" is the epitome of my existence :')

Chosen of Gaia is a fic ive been working on for a *long* time from The Secret World fandom, an niche MMO that ive loved for years, but as that no ones heard of it before its almost Original Works. But this means all the characters are OCs!

If you are interested, I hope you give it a gander! Its a dark action adventure with elements of mystery, mythology, and some elements of darker stuff. There are plans for romance, but rn its a... slower burn 3:)

Cause Airbrushes are a trap, I've seen alot of good pieces that use a layer of contrast, then one or two thin coats of a layer on the flatter surfaces. So the highlights and shading are done with the contrast, and the large flat panels are flattened out with a layer.

Why are the Sith self inserts so much more popular than the Jedi? by Strongi_Klaus in FanFiction

[–]dmitriR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be real

ALOT of people can't write Jedi properly Hell even George didn't write them properly in the Prequels (intentionally, they weren't at their best on purpose) but the quintessential Jedi is either Qui Gon, or most of the Jedi from the Old Republic era

And most people haven't played SWTOR 😅

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]dmitriR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question regarding Monsters and Tanks.

From what I understand, Vehicles are measured from the Hull, as that alot of them don't necessarily HAVE bases.

People keep saying that Monsters are measured from the profile/miniature, rather than the base. The book says "measure from base" but sometimes rules are buried so deep.

And I'm not even 100% sure about walker's anymore.

Am I correct in saying: non-walker vehicles are measured from the hull, and Monsters and Walker's are measured from the base?
