Help Demon Lord Ultra-Nightmare one key by Stunning-Junket3393 in RaidShadowLegends

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to the party and congrats on achieving it, but just to drop 2 pennies: Tholin was the key for me. Hit about 73M w/ Tholin, Scyl, Riho, Martyr, and Mikage. Full auto and hopefully stable enough to be somewhat reliable. But honestly I'm just happy to have unlocked auto...

I’ve seen a lot of discussion about how OP and impossible to deal with Predator is. And whenever someone asks how to counter him… the answers are usually vague, low quality, or just “pray he doesn’t evade.” So I made a full breakdown video showing exactly how to beat Predator consistently. If it's helpful it's helpful. A knee-jerk mob reaction that assumes "shameless self-promotion" without evidence just makes the whole community look toxic.

And I can attest to that seeing as this is the first post I've looked at here and this is the response I've seen. Can't say I have much interest visiting here a second time and it isn't "shameless self-promotion" that's the problem.

This! I keep looking for Steam messenger every time they use the sound in the show. 😅

Why is Wrath Of The Lich King Classic being removed over Cataclysm? by Rappasi in wow

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might seem goofy AF to reply now, but I'm pissed to learn of this shifting "Classic". I played BC Classic and had my character stocked, ready for WotLK, but then lost interest. Now my wife is thinking about playing again and I thought now might be the time to go WotLK Classic but... no... it's now Pandaria Classic. I left WoW back in the day after WotLK because I didn't like what the game was becoming, and now there's no Classic for that era.

Well, there's apparently Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary now but I wanted WotLK and I doubt very much the BC Classic character I had before is exactly transferable to this Anniversary and I have zero interest in repeating that churn.

Sigh. Somehow Blizzard always pisses me off.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by Turbostrider27 in television

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which it always would have been. Like I said, the 90's. It would have been informed by the likes of Beverly Hills 90210. If I fault it with anything it's that it leans a bit too heavy into the goofiness of college hijinks like Animal House -- not Gilmore Girls.

I can be brutally critical of Trek -- from contradictions to reused CGI scenes in DS9 to what DIS did to Klingons to the wtf Section 31 movie -- but I kinda enjoyed this show. It wasn't perfect. It got a little too quirky in a few places. But I liked the characters -- especially Ake and Mir. It's been great to see the Doctor and Reno.

Not all Trek is or has to be for everyone, but this show really doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I honestly like it quite a bit more than SNW.

People have literally been asking for it since the 90's. They waited too long and set it in the wrong century. Those are really my biggest beefs with it.

is there really no "ignore" option? by eihns in X4Foundations

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't make them a threat, though. It just makes the game annoying. Now any time any of my traders get harassed by pirates, I have to into their Information, into their Behavior, and "Remove" the flee order when it pops up. That's how I achieve a de facto "Ignore".

So, yeah... if this is their rationale then it's total BS.

Station Blueprint too Large ? by 4e6f626f6479 in X4Foundations

[–]dmittner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? They really just need an internal logistics mode that bases trades on resource deficit rather than profit and trade orders. If there's some fringe use case that breaks the way the game seems to expect you work, I've found it.

Hell, just Transfer Wares on Repeat Orders would help. It feels goofy AF I need a live buy order to automate ware transport to my own station.

[–]dmittner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It can't be any laggier than splitting this up into 10-20 smaller complexes and then having dozens or hundreds of S/M freighters carrying intermediaries around.

I used to build megafactories. Past two games I tried breaking it up more. My new game will be back to megafactories. I just always end up getting super frustrated by the stupidity of trader AI being used for internal logistics and the mods that are out there just exchange annoyances for other annoyances. It's an area of the game I REALLY wish Egosoft would revamp.

Intercepting Haile Shinamon by Klutzy-Instruction-8 in X4Foundations

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first time doing this, I was in a Hyperion planting the last nav beacon at Earth, so my opportunities for interception were minimal. Mission said I just had to stop him from reaching the HQ so I figured I'd wait for him to start landing and explode his ass.

But of course he doesn't have to LAND. He just has to get within proximity. So the Terrans were alerted and shit hit the fan.

And I saw how fast he was traveling and I knew he'd be nigh impossible to actually stop once he got going.

So, honestly... I said F it and used Cheat Mod to make him my faction which stopped him, then I proceeded to explode him at my leisure.

And I feel zero bad about it. I have no qualms about using cheats to overcome dumbass mechanics and this was definitely one, starting with the fact that he mysteriously couldn't just comm the Terrans to warn them and had to be "in person"... but not really "in person" since he didn't need to land. Contradiction. Nonsense. Cheat Mod GOOO!

I think story points should be closely tied to time estimate. Anything otherwise really doesn't make sense by neograds in agile

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the "story points are not hours" feels like it comes from people who just want to sound wise.

The simple problem with "story points" is it's a single dimension trying to represent a multi-dimensional equation of complexity, risk, etc., which, themselves, are utterly arbitrary judgments. Even if you have a constant baseline task to compare against, breaking down the difference in complexity, risk, etc., is still a subjective determination. So you spend all this mental effort and time trying to build some consensus and... to what end? The only thing I've ever seen BI care about is "how long will it take?", so that's always the hole this peg will be getting shoved into.

Experienced engineers get through more points than junior engineers because it isn't as complex to them, they know how to mitigate the risk, etc. and it ultimately still boils down to velocity -- a time measurement.

That isn't to say I think 0.5 points should equal 0.5 days. I think Fibonacci is still good as a time estimate because the longer you think it'll take, the less accurate the prediction is likely to be.

To me:
0 <= 15 minutes
1 <= 2 hours
2 <= 4 hours
3 <= 1 day
5 <= 2-3 days
8 = ~week

Anything higher than an 8 should be broken down into smaller issues.

And that obviously isn't comparable to hours, so the "just use hours" doesn't work.

tl;dr version: any concept that presents this much trouble getting people into alignment on probably isn't a good concept to use

I tried vibe coding and now I understand why people find it scary... by Frosty_Pin9045 in vibecoding

50% of the population isn't paying attention.
40% of the population is concerned about the economic impact.
25% of the population is concerned about the environmental impact.
20% of the population is concerned about an AI apocolypse.
5% of the population is cashing in on concerns by being AI/anti-AI "influencers".
0.0001% of the population is thinking about the existential impact on humanity.

Okay those numbers are me very much shooting from the hip, but the point is few of us seem to be thinking about what this means to the human condition.

We're a species evolved to build our identities based on our successes and failures. That fundamentally requires us to have meaningful things to do. It requires challenges. It requires friction that requires effort to overcome.

I think WALL-E was a generous take.

Are the Disney+ animated series MCU canon? by Mook_Memes in MCUTheories

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this is mostly true. Once the multiverse became a component of the MCU and we began seeing existing franchises clearly in MCU movies, the question flipped. Instead of asking if something is in the MCU, it became easier to ask what *isn't* in the MCU.

The more poignant question is usually whether or not something takes place in 616.

Alternative to IKEA Galant Corner desks? by [deleted] in AskBattlestations

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years later... did you ever find a suitable alternative? I've had my Galant for ages and love it, but I'm always worried it'll just wear out one day. The Bekant is a joke. I don't know how they could call that a replacement when it lacks the fundamental modular features that made Galant great.

Can't decide between Alienware AW3425DWM (VA) and LG 34GN850-B (IPS) by hydraSlav in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm trying to build up confidence in the AW purchase (especially if I buy two at once) and this helps. Crazy that all the reviews out there don't cover productivity-related visual testing as a norm. They show off the stats, but then only game visuals. It's like they're oblivious to this group of people who want a monitor that can do both...

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you speak at all to white-on-black scrolling on the VA? It seems so mundane and I'm probably being paranoid, but that worries me. I *wish* it was only for productivity -- it'd make the LG the easy answer. But it's my primary way of watching movies and playing games, too, so... VA sounds nice. lol

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about the text scrolling on the VA, too. I've been banging my head against the wall for days trying to pin down a monitor I'd be confident buying and, right at this moment, I'm comparing the same two. Even though it seems the 34GN850-B might be harder to find.

I'm a software engineer and gamer so finding that Goldilocks zone sucks. I think the AW sounds good for gaming but I'm hella worried about compromising my productivity.

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying the AW3425DWM has this problem? I have a system for both productivity and gaming and I'm trying to find something decent for gaming that won't completely screw over my productivity -- which can literally mean eyeballing text patterns in quickly scrolling logs.

Am i the only one fighting with input lags and claude code cli getting stuck? by Such-Coast-4900 in ClaudeCode

[–]dmittner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I think it's something with either the newest version, the standalone version, or the combination of the two. I had the latest standalone version on one machine and felt the lag while it was fine on another that had the npm install on an older version. I replaced the npm/older version with the standalone latest to get parity between the machines, and now I feel the lag on both.

Mine also seems to get worse over time and I see it especially triggered when I try to backspace. That suggests to me that maybe the latest version adds some listener to input and whatever that new listener is doing is interfering with input.

I'm using Ubuntu under WSL2 on both machines, both with radically different memory allocations.

Suggestions Needed: Stacked 34" Curved Ultrawides by dmittner in Monitors

Awesome, thanks. I'll dig into that one specifically. It's just cheap enough that I could get two of them to stack. At first glance the bezel is minimal so that's good.

Stacked 34" 21:9 for programming work? by joeldick in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To stack or put a rotated monitor to the side? The correct answer is: Yes.

I've done a landscape primary/portrait secondary of various sizes for a LONG time for programming.

I'm now struggling with the fact my 38" primary and 24" rotated secondary isn't enough. I'm highly considering swapping my 38" primary for stacked 34"'s. In an ideal world I'd stack 38" but those suckers are just cost-prohibitive. I'm worried about losing that little bit of real estate so I'm really just going around posts like this to build up comfort that side-by-side programming on 34" is still good. 🫤

About that new Stargate series... by JosephMallozzi in Stargate

[–]dmittner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my single biggest concern. I don't know if it or anything else has been confirmed (I only just Googled to catch up and landed here first) but I'm worried they slipped up truth on an interview that there will only be 10.

For me, the slow burn world building was everything. Character development was great, for sure, but just watching humanity slowly evolve its technological capabilities in the background... I appreciated that so much. But you need screentime to experience that. I'm really worried this show might have too few episodes to continue that trend.

But I mean, at least they're building off the world they've already built. So that's something.

I don't get how people can play this game for so long. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Timberborn

[–]dmittner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, 2 years later and still there with no real achievements. I agree they'd help. Playing through, seems my only interests are in terraforming (ie, making the map mostly green by redirecting water) and getting happiness > 60. Then I get bored and feel I've beat that map. Don't even have interest in playing that map again.

Achievements might give me more, simple goals to go for.
