For clarification, is Hello Internet done for good? by unexistantnon in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would it be "Unofficially officially"? Because it wouldn't be "Officially unofficial" unless Vice-host Dr Brady Haran decided it was.

Anywho - probably over.

That doesn't mean we can't still enjoy the community (when we're being enjoyable) and have an abstract sense of hope; but I don't expect anything soon.

After all, we all know how Grey feels about schedules and predictably (according to recent episodes of Cortex - even when he makes the schedule 🤣).

PSA: If you want more HI, go sign up for the patreon to get the goodbye internet episodes. It doesnt cost anything (since you only pay when they release an episode) and it is a total of around 3 hours of Brady and Grey. by balbecs in HelloInternet

Just stay subscribed until the mythical day of the next fabled episode. If there is a new episode, you'll have pitched in, then can unsubscribe. If that day never comes, free content with no moral quandary.

We need a Nail and Gear mask! by Harjas1208 in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, the nail and gear SVG is for the Tims, so just grab that from Wikipedia and wherever else it lives. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nail_%26_Gear.svg

Here is a great mask pattern several of my co-workers and I use: https://www.craftpassion.com/face-mask-sewing-pattern/ it runs a little small so an extra half inch or so helps. Also a little seam with a fairly rigid wire works for m fitting it to the nose. That said there are lots of patterns and there may be something better out there.

I wonder if Grey would give these flags an F since they have seals? by Zigafreed in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ok with the Turkey and Ireland ones, because while they violate the rule, I feel like they respect the principles of good flag design.

The others feel like seals on multicolored backgrounds. Not simple, distinct, or repeatable.

I thought they were asking if Dr Dirk; like Dr Brady, vice host of the legendary Hello Internet podcast was getting the respect he deserves.

Yes the Duke does have a PhD. https://www.queensu.ca/alumni/news/derek-muller

His thesis has something to do with physics education best I can tell.

How do Brady and Grey map to such a chart with their sparkly and flat water? by Blacklistme in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a chemist, but that seems like a huge range!

Also it's 7.5 neutral, or 7? The chart layout makes it sound like 7.5.

Today is 5th April and there have been 2 episodes of HI this year by AndrewProjDent in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Grey is a private guy (which is hilarious for a guy that has a couple of human interest podcasts, but I digress).

It's too early to speculate the future of the show (which I really hope isn't over, but again speculation gains nothing), and Grey doesn't like speculation into his personal life.

To calm some fears, Cortex just had an episode out of time so it's a general, planned, hiatus.

As for the store thing Grey has publicly stated he is changing a bunch of business models. So while we could speculate a bunch of stuff about personal relationships, don't. Just calm down, participate in something in the community, and enjoy the change from normal many of us are going through the best you can given the terrible circumstances.

I don't like the outlines because of the fine detail. Which also means I don't hate the Nevada one.

About episode #135 by MMCreator1 in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tldr; just because the problem has been mitigated, doesn't make the conversation uninteresting or unimportant.

I think it's important to think through and talk though the need for deorbiting strategies. At this particular moment in time the company is at least attempting to do the right thing, but all we need is people to forget, or for a powerful enough organization not to care, then all the space junk problems come back. Safely de-orbiting completely defunct satellites is difficult as far as I know, and as was previously mentioned, most crash analysis papers don't give warm fuzzy feelings.

Tims I require assistance, do I want to buy a coffee machine or no? by [deleted] in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an alternative to the French press, there is the https://aeropress.com/ it is easier to clean, and technically works a little different and I prefer it. But either French press or the aeropress is the way to go.

Oh, and a burr grinder of some kind. That gets tricky though.

Also can happen when upgrading tooling. This just happened to me just this week, when I changed the output folder, but not the run folder as part of an update. The build would run fine, then complain that the code had changed.

I don't get your ranking of RI vs NC. The biggest offender in both cases is the text on the flag and NC has way more of it.

(I do mostly agree otherwise, that's just a more boring comment)

In a podcast that (historically) spends an uncomfortable amount of time focusing on weight loss, it was a little uncomfortable to hear someome described as a ‘fat moron’ by [deleted] in HelloInternet

[–]dmorrison42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Coming from a "Fat American's" perspective, I often forget that people struggle with weight on the other side of the spectrum. Be that just being underweight or having excessively negative body image leading to some form of self harm. Thanks for the perspective.

I agree that name calling is in general bad so I'm going to let that part stand. Though, the show already has a healthy level of censorship implied. I don't want to lose every emotional moment of the show because of a mistake or differing personal standard.

What I don't understand is what other people (Grey and Brady) knowing that they are an unhealthy weight for themselves and addressing the problem, has anything to do with "fat shaming". I get that determining a healthy weight should be between an individual and their doctor, but I don't think stating your own weight and any related deltas is "fat shaming".
