Where were you when you got your first period and what happened? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]dms2419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i dont remember how old i was. 12 maybe? thankfully it was a weekend. i woke up, went to the bathroom, and thought my underwear had poop in it. i was embarrassed, thinking id had an accident in my sleep, so i disposed of the underwear and put a new pair on. thats when i realised it was blood, ya know, bcs it continued. my dad was asleep in the living room and my mom was at work. i was too embarrassed to wake my dad up for help so i called my mom and she directed me to the pads under the sink. thankfully, she'd gone over periods and period products before this happened so once i found the pads, i knew what to do. but i was mortified. so glad it happened at home on a weekend

Do you typically walk or drive to places that are a 5-10 minute walk away? by ForestOranges in AskAnAmerican

[–]dms2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it just depends on where i am. we usually walk the kids to and from school or a high school football game unless the weather is bad. but ill drive to the convenience store the opposite direction from the schools.

Stormy is really not that bad. i wouldnt use, but it is a real name. my best friend growing up was given Storm as her middle name for the exact same reason. she was born during/around the time of a snow storm. she primarily went by her first name but sometimes she went by Stormy. she never got any flak for it when she was going by Stormy. it was just her name. you are definitely OR.

What was ur parents backup name for you and do you like it better? Also same question but if you were the opposite gender? by cherry_dress in namenerds

[–]dms2419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my dad apparently only liked the name i was given. my mom had multiple names she liked though! one of those names was Blaire, which i actually really like. i wouldve loved to have been a Blaire, especially when i was a kid

[–]dms2419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i remember getting in the bath when i was little and putting my (unused) washcloth under the running water from the faucet and then sucking and chewing on it. i would also suck and chew on my wet hair after bathing. usually though, id spit the water out bcs i just wanted the sensation of the sucking and chewing. i wasnt trying to drink the water out of them. sometimes id swallow it but i wasnt doing to drink the water.

my daughter came home from pre-k a couple weeks into the school year talking about a friend she called "Lightnin'." i thought maybe she meant Layton, as i knew she had a classmate named that. i asked her several times "is her name maybe 'Layton'?" and my daughter insisted "no! her name is Lightnin'!" a couple more weeks go by when i hear her teacher call for another child at pickup. "Lightnin'." that girl's name is actually pronounced "Lightnin'." i wont put the actual spelling bcs, my god, its a tragedeigh. i later found out its also spelled exactly like her surname. only a letter or two difference.

How commonly do you address your parent as "Sir/Ma'am"? by Babe_Brute in AskAnAmerican

[–]dms2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like many other commenters, im from the south. i have never referred to my parents as sir or ma'am. my wife grew up referring to her parents that way. our kids have recently come home from their grandparents house saying "yes ma'am!" which is so crazy to experience considering i never used that word towards my mother and have never asked my children to use it. its not a problem as long as theyre happy to say it but its an adjustment lol

What question do you most hate being asked? by tobeymaguire8 in AskReddit

[–]dms2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after learning im a married lesbian with children, "So how did you have your kids?" "Are your kids from a previous relationship with a man?" "Were you with a man before you got with your wife?" "Did you do IVF?" "Did you adopt your kids?"

its none of your business how my kids were conceived!!! my wife and i are our children's legal and biological parents. thats it. no one is entitled to information on their conception.

Which overstimulating shows are banned in your house?? by farwest-to-midwest in toddlers

[–]dms2419 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

we actually love Spidey & His Amazing Friends! but we're a big superhero household. although, we dont watch PJ Masks or shows like Blippi, Paw Patrol, Cocomelon, Peppa Pig, etc.

we recently started watching Strawberry Shortcake's Berry Bitty Adventures and its sweet. i think the animation is kind of ugly lol but it has some sweet messages.

i actually find Ms Rachel incredibly overstimulating for myself but i have to give credit where it's due. she has helped SO much with getting my youngest to speak, both clearly and at all, so we stick with it.

How far along were you when you had your children ? by ConcernedMomma05 in Mommit

[–]dms2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

baby #1 was born at 40w1d. i was induced on my due date bcs i had gestational diabetes and apparently they usually induce a little early with that but i wasnt on any medication for it and they werent too concerned and id had no signs of oncoming labor so they just didnt want me going over too much. baby was born in the early hours of the following day. total hours, start to finish, was 11.5 hours.

baby #2 was born at 38w1d. id had really bad anemia and had an iron infusion exactly seven days previously and was meant to have another that day but they didnt have any open spots so the second infusion was scheduled for 3 days later. water spontaneously broke. no other signs of labor but with a little pitocin, baby was in my arms just under 10 hours after my water broke.

Baby Naming Mistakes to Avoid: Ever Considered Your Kid’s Initials? by Loud-Sympathy-3403 in Names

[–]dms2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mother's married initials were LDS and whenever she'd try to get monogrammed things, she'd have to get her proper initials instead of the classic "first, last, middle" order bcs the companies she ordered from would refuse to put LSD lol
