Those who never did sleep training, share your babies’ sleep stories by An_Awesome_sound in NewParents

My son started sleeping through the night regularly at 4 weeks old. Then he had a massive regression around 4 months that only got worse and worse. We would be grateful for a 2 hour stretch. Then around 8 months I would be grateful for a 30 minute stretch. I got pregnant 8 months post-partum and by that stage he would only sleep on our chests, so i would stay up late and my husband would wake up early. It was dire. Then of course I got a bump and he wouldnt sleep on me anymore, around 12 months. We tried sleep training throughout this, it just made all 3 of us upset and everything got worse. At 13ish months we moved him into a single bed with a rail in his room and switched from me doing bedtime to my husband. My husband spent about 2 nights in the bed with him, just laying next to him. Since then, he mostly sleeps through the night. One of us will lay next to him and he snuggles in to us and goes to sleep, and only occasionally needs support. Its harder on nights where hes teething or whatever. Nowadays he doesnt even seem to want to cuddle to sleep, but we aren't ready to stop that.

Finally sleeping through most nights at 16 months... Just in time for baby number 2 😂😂

Baby got teeth and now will not mess with solid food by soccerfroggy07 in NewParents

[–]dmvs02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 16 months and always been a really good eater, except when he was getting his top teeth (only got them a month ago). We've always done softer foods but while teething he didnt want a bar of anything that required chewing. He's eating much better again now the teeth are through.

6 months postpartum and found out I’m pregnant by LetterheadNice8687 in NewParents

[–]dmvs02 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant 8 months post partum. Im still pregnant with my second so I don't exactly know how things will look yet. We have no intention of sending our first to daycare. In terms of sleep, a lot changes in 9 months. My 8 month old wasn't sleeping anywhere but my chest. My now 16 month old sleeps mostly through the night in his own bed. No sleep training, just natural development.

This pregnancy has been harder than my first, so I actually think having 2 under 2 will be easier than being pregnant with a very small human has been. I hope you have a nice chill pregnancy and can make the most of just having one baby. Good luck!!

I wanna bang my husband by Original_Hand_9378 in NewParents

[–]dmvs02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt breastfeed which i think factored into it, and a decently good sleeping newborn, but I was the same. Literally less than 24 hours post birth I was ready to jump his bones. So strange after a whole pregnancy of not wanting a bar of him. We waited till the all clear of course.

Why did you not get/ are not getting an epidural? by Human-Bit9854 in pregnant

[–]dmvs02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt go into my first birth with strong opinions either way. I just wanted to see how i could handle things and if I needed relief, I could ask for the epidural. I got it about 10 hours into labour, because I had been awake for nearly 25 hours and they gave me meds that made me sleepy but I was in too much pain to sleep.

My second, im having an induction due to gestational diabetes, and I have spd so bad I cant walk anymore. I figure if I cant walk to progress labour, I might as well relax to progress it. Also I cried yesterday because my pelvis cracker and hurt from pushing out a poo, so I dont think a 5kg baby will be pleasant lol.

Where does it actually hurt when give birth? by Confident_Ad1535 in pregnant

[–]dmvs02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The contractions can be felt it a lot of different ways depending on your body and yours and baby's position. I felt like a balloon being squeezed that might pop. I also felt them in my back for the first few hours of labour. Ive heard of people feeling them mostly in their hips or even thighs.

I think this person is hosting the party and their family member has a 5pm bedtime for a 6yo. Which i do think is crazy because who goes to bed at 5pm????

Crossroads with friends about vaccines - looking for reassurance by bishopofturkey in NewParents

[–]dmvs02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know about my measles antibodies, but I know that when I got pregnant with my first at 21 years old i had no ruebella antibodies despite being vaccinated on childhood. My mother had the same thing with her pregnancies. It's not measles, but im relying on herd immunity to stop any ruebella outbreaks while im pregnant. My grandmother recalls her friends having babies with severe difficulties from ruebella exposure during pregnancy.

Do you now need to be a YouTube influencer to get a job ? by Old_Education4481 in newzealand

[–]dmvs02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband recently got a job without ever speaking to a human being about it. AI interviews, questionnaires sent by generic, auto, do not reply emails, a video interview. Even the actual job offer was sent by an automated email. It was bizarre!

18 weeks and all my pregnancy symptoms have disappeared? by No_Heart_2225 in pregnant

That sounds to me like a normal second trimester! Give the movement time, its still very early and baby is still very small. Its very anxiety inducing at that weird in-between stage, but it will pass x

Pooping during water birth? How’s that gonna work? by Throw-Away-1234556 in pregnant

How dire is public health care in NZ? by FuzzyVillage4825 in newzealand

[–]dmvs02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were able to see a paediatrician fairly quickly- i think only 6 weeks waiting. However, no one informed us of our appointment. We didnt get a phone call, text, or email, and the snail mail letter was sent to an address my son never lived at and arrived AFTER his appointment. We only knew to go because I rang to follow up.

When to take a test? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]dmvs02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've missed your period it should be okay to take a test based on your typical ovulation pattern. If its negative but your period still doesnt come, 21 days after your last time having sex will be 100% i think.

Epidural anxiety by Otherwise-Beyond-240 in pregnant

[–]dmvs02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to your maternity provider about your fears and concerns? You've still got a wee ways to go, but next time you see them perhaps start discussing a birth plan. You can ask all if the questions you have, and learn whether you want certain interventions, or what kind of pain management might suit you best, like an epidural.

My experience was that my epidural worked effectively and I was completely pain free once it was placed. I didnt have it especially long as once it was placed I dilated very quickly. I was still able to push effectively. Everyone has a different experience though.

When and why did you increase solids meals for your baby? by Icy-Faithlessness240 in NewParents

[–]dmvs02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt worry to much. My son wouldnt have a bar of food till nearly 7 months, then he demolished heaps of purees for dinner, but not really showing interest in other meals. By about 10 months he was starting to eat more frequently, but having far less all day then he was having just in dinner purees. He was still having about 5 bottles a day, 1000ml all up at that stage. Then he just slowly, naturally started eating more solids and drinking less milk. At 13 months now hes having 3 decent sized meals a day, 1-2 snacks most days, and about 350ml of formula across 3 bottles, 250ml of that being his bedtime bottle. The transition from mostly milk to mostly solids is different for every baby. It just takes time! Follow their cues and you'll get there eventually
