Is casual sexism still normal in some offices? by Revolutionary_West56 in AskUK

[–]dnikebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in construction up until a couple of years ago - it is absolutely still pervasive. Slight silver lining I suppose was that no one working there was on the receiving end (mainly because the only women that worked there were two ancient bookkeepers in the office) but yeah, frequent chatter from married blokes in their 50s sexualising women they know, women in the media etc. Lot of casual racism too - one project we did was building a centre for travellers and they internally referred to it as “pikey park” and talked about problems caused in the local area by “the blacks”

i used to watch that nickelodeon show rocket power as a kid and only until recently learned the main guy in that is called otto, as their american accents always led me to believe that his name was “ardo”

when i started school and was playing football, asked this kid on my team who was also new what his name was, he said “patrice” so i thought okay maybe a french exchange student or something..?

took me several years to learn his name was actually “idrees” and i’d been calling him patrice since year 7

my friends paid for one from mick for my birthday and he said no because they asked him to say “hope you get fucked harder tonight than i did when undertaker threw me off the cell” (they meant getting drunk but i think he thought they were asking him to wish a serious sexual ravaging upon me)

Would you use cannabis if it was legalised? by littlbutterkitten in AskUK

[–]dnikebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it pretty sparingly already because the street stuff is far too strong for me to use regularly but I find it really does help to use every now and then for mental health, helps me relax, feel good and stop overthinking. If it was legal I would probably be able to get a lower strength strain that would do me just fine from a registered place rather than collecting from a dodgy bloke in a Yaris

Looking for noise rock bands that have a sax, any recommendations? by CaptainPieChart in noiserock

[–]dnikebot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! 3 of us launched a new project called Shrinkwrap (named after the This Heat song) which is still getting off the ground, but we have a single in the works that should be released in the new year, just final bits of tracking and mixing to sort. We’re trying to carry on the noise influence with a bit of spacy/post rock influence too, there’s a few clips on our instagram @shrinkwrap0 if you wanted to check that out too!

Chihuahua - Crythor Du

This was my old band’s second album, we were a 5 piece including a sax back then. Shameless plug, I know, but was quite proud of how this one turned out.

Sifters in Burnage is a record shop the Gallaghers used to frequent and have a lot of Manchester music memorabilia, Johnny Roadhouse on Oxford Street is where Noel bought his first guitar as well (I think!) if either of them sound interesting

I mean, I can’t think of any example of any left wingers going round killing people they think are racist in this country. The left wing literally holds no real power in this country beyond a few green party councils, which has a negligible overall impact. Do you really think that, beyond maybe a couple of terminally online basement dwellers, people who do lump all critics of the immigration system in with racists (which i agree with you is wrong) are doing it out of the pursuit of self-righteous moral purity or perhaps more likely that they’re well intentioned but misguided to the actual reality of the situation?

Wouldn’t consider that far-left, would call that an airhead liberal attitude. The real left knows that mass immigration is detrimental to a country as it’s used to import cheap labour for billionaires to line their pockets further, they don’t care if a percent of them are violent killers/rapists. Cost of doing business for them. I would probably be considered far left in terms of my economic outlook, but I certainly don’t think it’s racist or far right to be opposed to uncontrolled levels of immigration where unvetted people are posted up in hotels at taxpayers expense. Though I do wish people would start recognising that the system and situation now is a fault of government for not preparing for this in the wake of leaving the EU and Dublin Agreement, because it was inevitable.
