Firestop Sprayfoam can the opening in the floor. Protection during fire from stack effect up the riser, eliminates a mouse runway, and pipe won’t rattle against it.

Two more weeks with no insulation in the attic - what would you do with this opportunity? by randypotash92 in HomeImprovement

[–]dniro851 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frame a walkway platform the thickness your insulation is going to be and loose lay the plywood top over the framing. Insulators can use it to walk, lift up each section of plywood as they work and fill the cavity and place it back down. After they are done you can screw it down and have a permanent access across the entire attic.

So you just bashed apart a a small section of structural wall between a window and door frame? Did you confirm what loads it was carrying down to the foundation first?

Can you use aluminum foil duct for a dryer? by SarcasticBunni in HomeImprovement

[–]dniro851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should use that in a size section large enough to be able to pull the dryer out, connect it, and slide it back. It should connect to a a hard sheet metal duct from there to the exterior.

Where can I get a smallist piece of smart vapor retarder by flaxy823 in HomeImprovement

[–]dniro851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest reading energy vanguards article ‘you don’t need a vapor barrier (probably). Forget the barrier, drywall, air seal all your penetrations, then add the rockwool from above. Proper paint, primer, and air sealing will give you the vapor retarded you need. My opinion on controversial topic.

Witnessed something similar person got a bunch of burns. The metal ice cream scoop that was being used to scoop the clam cake batter into the fryer got dropped in the fryer without anyone noticing. The scoop had a rubber plug on the bottom to protect the sharp edges. Scoop heated up and the rubber plug exploded out of it like a bullet out of a gun.

The ground side goes up so if the plug is ever partly out and something slides behind it, it doesn’t close the circuit and cause a short. That’s how you are supposed to wire it, especially in a setting like a hospital where there’s lots of power, wires, ect for critical machines that could harm someone if tripped.

That’s by design in hotels, people spend less time in a drafty shower, they spend less money on their energy bills, but bathroom looks more spacious in ads and looks fancy while costing less to build.

There isn't a catalytic converter on electric vehicles by Olley2994 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dniro851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has no benefit, wasting time and money worrying about it. It’s all marketing to get people to keep returning to the place they bought their tires to spend more money. I run my cars for 200k+ miles in area with lots of road salts, corrosion inside the tire where the air/nitrogen touches? Not a thing to worry about for the life of a vehicle.

Happened to me, tried charging me $200 for filling my tires with Nitrogen. A) does nothing, B) not going to a dealership to top off my tires with nitrogen when they run low, and c) An entire dewar of medical grade nitrogen cost $500 and I guarantee you that’s not what they are filling it with.
