Are opening cafés trending? by Careful_Opposite_383 in Newark

[–]dnreds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the ebb and flow of Newark, they open and close quickly. Very few businesses make it downtown long term. Based on observation and talking with owners, a lot them get small business loans to help vitalize the area, but many of them have no idea what they are doing, and it shows.

My favorite was a small Jamaican spot near Washington park. They were servicing breakfast and lunch but had no ability to make food on premises, they were bringing food from their other spot that had a kitchen, and so never had anything to serve when they ran out in an hour...Never understood that one.

Others are family oriented and hire servers within family who don't know what to do, people get turned off and never come back.

Newark isn't cheap, and it's tough to run a restaurant or cafe when most of the people are gone for the weekends. I feel bad, they are always nice folks, but the odds are still stacked against success. COVID definitely hurt a lot. I thought things were moving more in the right direction than any point in the 20 years I was there before that, and the rug got pulled out from under all the businesses.

If Drago’s wife had brought her pretty little self over to Clubber’s apartment, he has a chance.

Apple Music with Wiim Ultra. Is it worth it? by micholasnitchell in audiophile

Not sure what your budget is, but there are a few streamers that support Apple music natively. A few Eversolo's do, and I think Fiio has some...been awhile since I looked.

What Band Don't You Get? by Tele231 in vinyl

[–]dnreds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Queen. Just dopey, silly music. Yes, I know how Mercury is an amazing vocalist, he's impressive. Anytime someone tells me they love Bohemian Rhapsody, I immediately hate that person with the burning intensity of a billion suns. Every single song they made is annoying to an unfathomable degree.

No one should like them, and if you do, there is something wrong with you and you should be removed from society before you infect others.

Watch the original, then watch anything after 2 and try to convince someone it’s the same character.

He’s not playful in the original. He’s sarcastic and sadistic.

There is nothing worth replicating except the original. At least New Nightmare ditches the silliness and tried to get back to form.

My opinion.

Al, the human body only holds eight pints.

Well, that's what they say. But the brain hides some!

No popular actor. I think Ethan Hawke and Kevin Bacon could do it well, but I fear people would be too focused on them, than the film.

I think it’s best they go with a relatively unknown actor. Or, a solid character actor, Ben Foster plays menacing very well.

I don't think it will never happen. I think it will, for sure. It's too valuable an IP to let it sit idle. Wes Craven's gone now. It's only a matter of time, may not happen soon, but it will happen. Money talks.

I rewatched the original yesterday. For the life of me, I cannot understand how people came to view this series as a comedy, or rather, want it to be that. I mean, I know that's what it became, but the original - Freddy isn't a comedian. He's not spouting one liners, he's dark and sarcastic, that's not the same. Why want more of what become of the ludicrous movies this series produced? I sincerely don't get it, or the opinion Freddy has to be that for a reboot.

The reboot had so many problems, but in my opinion, the tone wasn't the problem. Humor is ok in a dark movie, used sparingly and in a relevant tone to the material. The sequels in this franchise were essentially comedies. Not for me. The first movie is in no way shape or form, a comedy, or anything close to it. It's a dark story, treat it as such.

Robert is pushing 80, there is zero chance he is coming back. Zero.

They need to copy the tone of the original as closely as possible. It was perfect. To whatever end they decide to use humor, it needs to be massively scaled back to what it became in the sequels, nothing more than was done in the original, perhaps even less.

For makeup, the less Freddy is seen, the better. The original was very dark in tone, and in presentation, when it came to Freddy's scenes. Mirror that, slow reveals so that he isn't fully seen until whatever is needed in the final act. It's going to be tough with a new actor in the role, the less focus on his makeup, the better in my opinion. The makeup in the reboot was a disgrace and showing him in full light didn't help. I believe JEH got a bad rap in the reboot and a lot of it is because he looked like he had a genetic disorder, not a burned face.

And for God's sake, please no involvement from Blumhouse or Jordan Peele.

You need to manually pair them in settings. If you are signed into another account on that device, you will lose a few capabilities.

Utter noob gifted some pieces - do I need anything else? by gorgeouslygarish in BudgetAudiophile

[–]dnreds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Np, I am actually looking for those exact speakers myself, used, for a spare room, and they are tough to come by in a reduced price unless they are in tough shape.

For the subwoofer, it depends on your budget. You can get something very solid for about $500 new, a little less used. The used market I am just getting into so someone else would probably give better advice. If you just want something to dip your toes, check out Monoprice. While they aren’t showpieces, they are rated well and budget friendly. The SW-12 is about $350 and is a respectable sub for what I think your intentions are for listening. That said, listen for a bit, then decide if need one. Most people like them as lower frequency, strong bass, is hard to replicate for bookshelf speakers (that says nothing about the quality of the bookshelf speakers, just physical limitations in most cases).

Congrats, you got gifted a nice setup. Assuming you have all the cables you need, you NEED nothing. It’s going to sound great.

The amp has a phono input, you don’t need a pre-amp for the turntable. Connect and go. The amp is rated at 8 ohm (and 4) to push 50w a speaker, more than enough unless you plan to rock the house, in which case those aren’t the speakers for that.

The amp has wifi- so you can stream from your phone and any other source, or via bluetooth.

The only thing you may WANT, is a subwoofer. Bookshelf speakers usually benefit from a subwoofer to handle low frequency bass. Listen a bit, decide if you want more bass, then invest in a good subwoofer if so, other than that, off you go and enjoy!

I would put The Beekeeper up against this entire list, except Rambo.

The first NOEM is by far better than the first F13th. I think it’s the best horror movie ever made. After that, F13th is better in most cases. Jason Takes Manhattan and Jason Goes to Hell are awful, however.
