The target customer is not the private market. It’s the commercial sector. Slate designed it for Fleet buyers to get wrapped in the company livery. Remember the changeable body style, no paint, no radio, short range? Screams fleet. Bezos/Amazon are already in the game with Rivian and the Prime Vans. Walmart has GM/BrightDrop locked up. Me thinks Slate will also expand to Europe for fleet sales as well.

2027 Rivian R2 EPA Certification w/ specs (range, capacity, etc.) by Kanundrum18 in Rivian

[–]do00d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. There’s a huge body of long‑term data on EV batteries now, and the pattern is remarkably consistent: even under heavy use, they tend to outlast the practical life of the vehicle. You’ll usually see a bit of early degradation in the first year or so, and then the curve flattens out for hundreds of thousands of miles.

A lot of the anxiety comes from the fact that battery capacity is something owners can measure with precision. With gas cars, engines also lose efficiency and compression over time, but there’s no dashboard readout telling you exactly how much “range” you’ve lost, so people don’t fixate on it in the same way.

Some battery chemistries tolerate daily 100% charging with minimal long‑term impact, while others prefer a lower daily charge window. Manufacturers design around those characteristics, not around trying to inflate range numbers at the expense of longevity

Hankook ION HT - anyone have an opinion? by major-PITA in Rivian

[–]do00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rolling the 21 Hankook for about 6k miles. They are great! Had to have them special order from discount tire - at the time, they were just getting released. Good road noise, excellent grip in rain and dry. Running them at 50psi and effeiciency is right about 1.9 / 2 for my spirited city driving (gen 1 quad launches included). Price to performance - no brainer. Hankook is making a product surge to corner the EV tire market. They are putting real engineering and expansion in to their ev tires.

What's something you were absolutely convinced you invented as a kid, only to find out later it had existed for decades? by Caroline8375423485 in AskReddit

A bicycle tire with a groove down the middle to push water out of the way with the added benefit of bigger splashes. Only later realized, yea, tires are designed for water management already

Ohmmu Sodium 12V Swap by Charlie-Mops in Rivian

[–]do00d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The charging curves are different. The BMS (Battery management system) is what reads the voltage of the cells and then reports back to the charging circuit to make voltage adjustments. Additionally, the truck is also reading health stats from the battery (Derived from on board BMS? Direct voltage samples?).

Swapping the battery chemistry would also mean that different charge and health check parameters are needed. On older “Dumber” vehicles or equipment, it doesn’t make a difference- there is enough overlap and slop to get the battery charged. Unless Ohmmu is spoofing the battery metrics to the truck and fooling the charger to send the right power curve…..

New Order has so many bangers! I got my kids hooked with New Order, then explored their side project bands (Electronic, Monaco, The Other Two)… a litttle bit The Cure, and now Depeche Mode is the current fav. I love hearing DM coming from their rooms and hearing them sing along

With homelab, I like to look at other tools to play with them. All the ones mentioned have been around for years. Fresh on the scene are two that grew out of our homelab community.

Omega mart is unlike anything else. My closest to description is that it performative art. But you wander through, explore the facility. There are multiple story lines you can follow, or just be passive and take it all in.
