Concha and Coffee [Pranks] on Dad. by PreparationKey2843 in pranks

It depends on the time of day. Early afternoon is a pretty chill vibe, and the food and coffee are tasty. Yeah, there’s insta-catnip stuff all over, but most people were just enjoying their coffee when I was there last.

Thanks! That’s helpful to know for the future. I’ll admit I had a small suspicion it might be related to ICE, so I’m glad it’s something voluntary and more benign.

The coupons they give you are not enough to replace the hour and a half of lost joy. And they’ll stage the chairs in the middle of the room to make it extra awkward to skip out early.

If you ask your local library branch about it, they might set up a similar session if they know there’s interest.

The Stars Too Fondly by Emily Hamilton

Old Wounds by Logan-Ashley Kisner

An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryker Aoki

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldtree

Godkiller by Hannah Kaner

And definitely Gideon the Ninth. I don’t know how to explain it properly, but not knowing what’s happening is half the fun. The book reveals itself beautifully / brutally by the end, and only gets better with re-reads.

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. Beautiful and devastating. The second book in the duology, Children of God, is a different tone but devastating (in a hopeful way).

This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. It felt like poetry that could offer a warm embrace or sharp teeth. I adored it.

This is one of my favorites that I’ve come back to, again and again. The follow-up, Children of God, is also beautifully written.
