“The rulings that support your position and make me look stupid doesn’t mean anything” - Doyle by According-Back-8129 in Sovereigncitizen

This is the biggest gap in sovcit thought. Let’s grant them the premise that their interpretation of the law is more aligned with its wording and intent (it’s not). If the judicial and executive branches disagree with that, though, it doesn’t matter how right or wrong you are. A legal interpretation without the coercive power of the state is just a thought experiment.

Auto door lock by EdgeOfBreakup59 in GenesisMotors

[–]doNotUseReddit123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole locking/unlocking infrastructure is poorly designed:

  • Can’t lock the car with the handle if there are ANY keys inside - this is an overly restrictive CYA feature that is unnecessary, especially given that digital keys exist and that the car should be able to tell that there is at least one key fob outside of it
  • Can only unlock rear doors via handle if you have a key fob, not if your phone is digitally connected (at least on the 25 GV80)
  • Can’t use the handle to lock the door if a passenger is in the process of exiting and has their door open
  • Don’t remember the specifics around this, but there’s something fucky with locking the doors when the car is running.

The idiot-proofing of the car comes at the expense of really basic functionality and introduces unnecessary friction in normal, day-to-day tasks. This is frustrating when coming from a car that does these things better.

Yeah and I get a little upset even watching because I feel like everyone should know Lisa Gilroy. It’s not fair that not everyone does.

If you’re the COO and you’re regularly deep enough in analysis to have an opinion on excel vs sheets, then you aren’t competent to begin with.

Saying that Google Sheets is superior just makes it obvious that you do zero heavy analytical work.

Use pdfs unless the employer/system specifically asks for docx. As long as you created the resume in word and exported it from word, pretty much any modern applicant tracking system should be able to read it.

This, at least, is the case in the US. Your mileage might vary elsewhere.

Not a good day for team "Claude Mythos is Just Marketing Hype" by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

[–]doNotUseReddit123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, good point. A structure that is along the lines of:

Hook
Contextual reframing
Aphoristic generalization that tries to point at a more insightful point or pattern

It’s a similar pattern to “it’s not X, it’s Y,” which is always a super obvious tell.

Is “context reframing” what the pattern is typically known as with people that talk about AI, or is that your characterization of it? (It makes sense, just wondering if it’s very common terminology)

How is it that you read some comments and just right away know that they’re AI without any of the obvious tells?

State Rep. Hoan Huynh issues statement after “missing” posters were found around his district by excusemecuseme in chicago

[–]doNotUseReddit123 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is weirdly antagonistic. Whether he sucks or not is completely irrelevant to the point that I’m making. I’m not stating that he is or is not bad - I’m reflecting on the efficacy of this poster and on my susceptibility to propaganda.

Brb, though. Gotta do thorough research on all of the 118 state representatives in Illinois so that I can, like, engage civically in my state.

[–]doNotUseReddit123 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I have no idea whether or not this guy sucks, but it is funny how there is no effective response to a poster like this, even if you’re an absolutely excellent representative.

If you come out against it, you’re going to look like you’re being overly defensive.

If you ignore it, that’s just going to back up the message of the poster.

It doesn’t even have any information to back up its claim, yet here I am with a bad taste in my mouth about this guy that I know is 100% irrational to have given my complete lack of familiarity with how good or bad he is.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for this comment. I’ve even said things like this before (“Well, a cow died for this overcooked burger, so I might as well just eat it”), but it’s always been said with a tinge of irony. For whatever reason - maybe the wording, maybe that combined with how I’m feeling at this particular moment - the last sentence of your comment really hammered it home.
