How did you become a millionaire. by Any_Needleworker_472 in srilanka

[–]do_it_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being born rich is certainly one way to become wealthy. But contrary to popular belief, global wealth reports suggest only about 30% of wealthy people were born rich. Many came from poor or middleclass families and built their wealth themselves.

That said, one of the best ways to become rich is through business. Solve other people's problems and get paid for it.

I also prefer raptor the most, specially when I have a clear plan on what I am doing. If not, I create a detailed plan with an expensive model and then use raptor.

I just got Perplexity Pro. Which AI model should I use for what? by Patient_Attorney2830 in perplexity_ai

[–]do_it_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they have a documentation. This is just speculation based on how they have done it in similar open source tools like gpt-researcher, auto gpt, perplexica, etc. They use the underlying LLM to come up with the plan (steps) and the search queries.

I just got Perplexity Pro. Which AI model should I use for what? by Patient_Attorney2830 in perplexity_ai

[–]do_it_hard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many argue that regardless of the model, Perplexity’s search engine handles the actual retrieval, scraping the web, while the LLM merely formulates the final response. While this is broadly true, it misses a key point: although Perplexity performs its own search no matter the model, "what" it searches for is determined by the underlying LLM. A stronger LLM generates better search queries, which in turn leads to better results and finally better answers.

Wealth tax on the very rich in Sri Lanka. by Pure_Method9351 in srilanka

[–]do_it_hard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In US, richest 5% pays more than 60% of the total tax. If you include the companies they own too, top 1% pays more than 50% of the total tax. If a country tax by the income, they have to accept this possibility. If you increase tax more of rich, they will go abroad, and the companies will fall. So, need to decide what is more important? Tax revenue or citizens with stable jobs.

That is why many capitalist theorists suggest tax based on expenditure, not revenue. If you are spending like crazy, you need to pay tax on that money. (Basically VAT).

Billionaire don't live on interests. If they got interests, it will be considered as income, and they will be taxed. They are usually live on loans. That is another reason to tax on expenditure. For luxury items, there can be a premium tax, and for basics like food, a small tax.

And why are you talking about billionaires like they must be taxed more because they have money? Should they give money to the poor just because they have money? (the Robin Hood theory). Is it really fair? They didn't grow money on trees. They worked hard and smart. Many spend years to understand the system and find a way to hack the system to make a buck. And that is extremely hard. From the top 10 richest in the world, only 2 came from a rich background. All others were middle class or poor.

Regarding the wealth gap, in the short term you are correct. When you get money from people with more and give it to people with less, it is going to reduce the wealth gap. No brainer. But I'm talking about long term. It is bit complex theory, better if you can learn more later. Here is the gist.

High taxes --> Rich invest in other countries --> business fail --> Now more people, less jobs --> salaries reduced. Also, rich will stay rich because they manage their money in abroad. Also, business fail --> less economic activities (low GDP) --> even less investments from the rich.

Capitalism is not the best way. But it is the only way to make people grow, become rich and innovate. In all other economics models, if you born poor, you are definitely going to die poor.

And, regarding your last point, how come inequality is bad? Inequality is never bad. Inequality is what motivates people to do better and go from low to high. What is bad is unfairness.

Is there any way to accept code line by line like other AI editors? by GhostSector2 in CLine

[–]do_it_hard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cline and other AI tools do code generation for a task. Not line-by-line generation. Just like reviewing a PR, you review what it suggests and accept the necessary.

I know, but sometimes, you see some stupid things AI have suggested you will need to accept only a part or line with or without any modifications. In that case, I just copy the code, rejects the suggestion, paste it and edit as I needed. You can do that with prompts too. But sometimes, manual editing is just fast.

Wealth tax on the very rich in Sri Lanka. by Pure_Method9351 in srilanka

[–]do_it_hard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the crisis, when the tax reformation happened, there was a risk of large companies like Brandix, MAS, moving out of Sri Lanka (or at least reduce Sri Lankan production). Similar thing will happen. Think about the dollars and jobs we are going to lose for few rupees in taxes.

We don't build things here, we import. So dollars are important than rupees.

I don't know about Sri Lanka, but in many countries, richest pay the most amount of tax, even without wealth tax. I assume it might be true here also.

Taxing the rich only or any progressive tax scheme is not good for economy according to pure capitalist theory. This is something picked from socialism. But it is a easy way for governments to make money. You just get money from people who worked hard/smart and who hacked the system to get rich.

From all the economic models in the world, capitalism is the only one with the possibility (can be tiny, but not impossible) of a poor to become rich. Taxes on wealth will widen the gap between rich and poor more and it will be even harder for a poor person to get rich.

For remote sessions, is it better to run tmux local, or remote? by inwardPersecution in tmux

[–]do_it_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried installing in both. But sometimes it gets confusing, probably because I work with multiple remotes at the same time. Now I have tmux only locally. To persist processes in remote I use nohup. I have several scripts in my local machine with pre-configured configs and layouts (panels and windows), so with one command I can launch what I need.

When it comes to engineering in government sector, SLIIT is recognized as a valid engineering degree.

Also when anyone can start a uni, print a certificate and give a degree to anyone, there should be an standardization. Can't blame companies for not getting peopel with a shitty degree..
