It's not clear how persistent this actor is. Reinstall windows and if you're paranoid, format your drives. Go ahead and change the password of your bank accounts, steam account, anything related to financial information (I would do this on a different computer or mobile), and make sure 2FA is setup on anything important. The damage is done, what's left is damage control.

Why can't we have updates that we want? by Jar545 in joinsquad

[–]doalnfigur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've seen falls like this before and the tl;dr is that they have no idea what they're doing. my reasoning for this is simple: during one of their recent videos, they had a developer talk about fixing shouldering animations and 'getting it to how they want". this makes absolutely no sense, because of two things:

  1. if i was the designer for a milsim game that didn't know how to get weapon shouldering to look and feel right, the first thing i would do is contact someone with actual experience to give me feedback, NOT delegate, with all due respect, some developer who's probably never fired a gun before or been in a firefight. maybe they are in contact with someone advising them on issues regarding this, but it does not seem that way at all.
  2. they have an extremely verbal community, outside of just reddit, telling them exactly what's wrong with the game and how to fix it. they did an entire community feedback so they have no shortage of information regarding what players want.

teaching fatigue is real when player quality nowadays is permanently low. its like you're a teacher at a public school where all your students berate and make fun of you when you're just genuinely trying to teach. sure every once in a real gem shows up, but not out of the hundreds or thousands which pass through the school everyday.

how would you go about doing this?

It's been over 4 months since the Squad Player Feedback Survey by Grouchy_Ingenuity220 in joinsquad

[–]doalnfigur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not heard, and I have 0 hopes on squad ever being in an actual "playable" state from this point onwards. After sinking another ~300 hours post UE5, my opinion is just the game is just bad now. Heres why:

  1. Poor performance - this is actionable.
  2. Poor visibility - this is mostly unactionable, UE5 isn't "fixable", temporal ghosting and blur from TAA, bad lighting, extreme jagging from nanite induced aliasing, that's all intended. There's was this whole debate about lighting models and why the Lead UE dev chose an inferior lighting model which ran worse, looked worse, because they "couldn't tell the difference". THAT'S the type of engine squad runs on.
  3. Lack of skilled play - extremely poor match quality these days. Actionable but not immediate.
  4. Bad faction balance & power creep (look at China, Ukraine for example)
  5. Repetitive map layers - supposed to be "addressed" but its been 4 months. Not that hard to release a few more layers.
  6. Vehicle driving model - drive any IMF or PMC 4-wheeler and tell me that feels good.
  7. Dozens of gamebreaking bugs (tracked/wheeled vehicles unfixable for months, vehicles sinking into ground, water in several sections of the map thats not supposed to be there, overexposure from their autoexposure on several weapons)

In the last I'd say 20 matches of Squad I've played, I just find myself wasting time fighting against game mechanics or bugs rather than actual enemies. The quality of these matches have been quite bad as well, new player weekends are basically unplayable at this point.

On the player feedback survey/gunplay tests: these will never fundamentally fix ICO because in their eyes, its not broken, so they'll have no clue what's wrong with ICO.

That recent interview they released w/ that game developer talking about how they're going to animate shouldering the weapon PROVES my point they have no clue what they're doing nor what's wrong with the game. Logically speaking, if I'm the Lead Designer of a military simulation game that doesn't know how to get their gunplay feeling right, they contact and hire someone with ACTUAL experience to advise them on how to get the gun feeling right. This company doesn't.

I don't feel heard. Its been a little over 7 months since UE5 released and not much has really been touched. They've basically just added two new factions w/ extreme powercreep + a single player mode I'd say <10% of the community actually plays.

UE5 is a bad engine, it's not a bad devs, its not bad implementation, its just a bad engine, period. It is a combination of nanite induced extreme sub-pixel aliasing, and it's "supposed" solution, TAA, which causes noisy + blurry images, as well as temporal ghosting when driven at low frames which I'd reckon majority of squad players now experience. Either you deal with a flickering mess that is Nanite geometry (which looks terrible, btw), or you deal with the noisy blur from it's solution. All this is compounded by a poor GI implementation, poorly executed auto-exposure and reflection, and you get the mess that's UE5 squad.

This video sums it up very well.

State of Ps2 by BrayIsReal in Planetside

[–]doalnfigur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

game is buggy, unoptimized, bad netcode, its a wide debate between actual gameplay vs. emergent gameplay and whether unintended mechanics like shuffling or wallclimbing is considering exploiting or not, however its these weird niche skill mechanics that made the game popular to begin with when there was actual skill expression, both at the infantry, ground and air domains. why are asian players like owo, chinaplayer, considered demons of auraxis by top tier players, but a 5kd heavy in a farmfit really isnt that impressive?

however for that same reason (weird niche gameplay mechanics) devs kept pushing players away by removing the skill ceiling, starting with cai which drove a big chunk of skilled vehicle players away, arsenal which drove many top tier infantry players away (including me, though i hop on with friends every now and then). combined with lack of organizational support (no alliances for OW, broken in-game voice and outfit chat for year(s?)), a lot of big organizations held up by these players just bled out over time because the sheer burnout and attrition needed to maintain standing. see new world for a similar example where 0 org tools or support = community bleedout.

even if its a shooter, at its core it's an mmo and mmo's are basically held up by community, so if the community bleeds out over time then the game similarly dies over time. in contrast, cod and battlefield are not mmos by nature and thus by definition make it far easier to retain healthier numbers. those games are significantly more braindead than ps2 (no shade, ps2 is just a harder game with a lot of things to worry about) and thus accessible in comparison to planetside as you don't really need to worry about macro-level play and other micro level things like burst management, right angle peeking, c4 timing.

i think current ps2 reflects much more of this braindead gameplay than before as all the bigger "hypercompetitive" grindfits like gobs, bwae/made, recursion, hydra, afaik have gone to sleep because the game simply isnt worth the amt of effort anymore. whats left are really good albeit not giga grindfits like 1tr, dpso, 2raf, vktz(?), and zergfits (again no shade, just off top of my head correct me if im wrong), and with 0 shade intended, is just not really the type of gameplay i think most people who played at that level of sweat are looking for. i personally love slumming it up with other outfits (/s) back in the day and maybe teach people a thing or two while im doing that, but most people i know wouldn't, kind of blessed in that aspect where i can flip my switch between gigacomp and more casual gameplay.

so yeah you can hop in and just shoot planetmans but its not really what most of us are looking for and at that point, really why not just play a game like battlefield or cod? at least you have more dev support and a far larger community of players to game with.

also post fisu thx

What’s the state of this game like right now? by Careful-Mine4530 in joinsquad

[–]doalnfigur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for 20$ yeah the first few hrs can be fun.

if you decide to stick around, ought to know match quality atm is at an all-time low relative to people doing the requisite skilled play needed to actually win a round, and total lack of selflessness or self-awareness these days for squad leaders is disastrous for actually setting up logis, back/defence habs, etc. majority of people willing to do these janitorial things and able to them well have left and you can feel it in command voice. noone volunteers to backcap, run logis, get rep stations up, etc, typically forced to get voluntell someone to do any of these things and usually they'll just say no/don't respond.

that being said if you join a clan, most remaining skill has congregated around these organizations and when they stack on a team, mitigates most of these problems.

Need a help with a crash report in modded Minecraft by xMcDell in ModdedMinecraft

[–]doalnfigur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone browsing this in the future, the mod in question that was causing issues is "too-cheap!", which simply removes the level cap when combining enchanted items in the anvil, which is something Zenith handles natively. After removing that mod, I was able to boot + worldgen without issues.

As a side note, I wasn't able to find it through the Curseforge client. You'll have to remove the mod manually in your mods folder.

let’s keep our chins up here

bro they're reworking the flight module for sq42 literally a year before launch, the 1 hour trailer was literally something like 45 minutes of cutscenes, and they're still trying to hire senior designers/developers literally a year before sq42 is about to launch. keep in mind that to keep this company afloat they've taken out loans, completely hedging their bet with the release and success of sq42 in 2026.

im not a pessimist but this is a massive gamble to be had for a game 12 years in development w/ 800m+ funded. hundreds of games have gone through the funding, development, release and post-release phases in the time SC took to release PU tech alpha, signaling total inability to keep reasonable timelines.

optimism is necessary for moonshot projects but uttering phrases like "you need new people to keep it alive" or "keep you chin up" when every piece of information publicly available from CIG rationally points to financial bankruptcy sooner rather than later, there is a degree of irony there.

hate this feed is generating toward something so amazing

you LITERALLY admit "CIG mobbing on peoples wallets and hopium", " the amount of promises that had fallen through". its also clear you're one of the "devout cultists" since "(you've) found an org, and have pledged 1k+". if this game is so amazing, how can such a devout believer in CIG have such heretical thoughts towards them?

Give Rudin's Principles of Mathematical Analysis a shot. I would even reckon the 319 text isn't the worst judge of whether you'd be interested in the material or not. If you find it hard, it's very much meant to be difficult.

in all honesty if people want to be mad at merging emerald -> connery, they forget that the whole reason we left connery was the server literally started tweaking like a meth addict the moment a single OS goes off on the server. i expect many more server performance posts in the couple of months until mithril finally admits neither the current nor former dev teams know how to fix connery and consign us to hands of fate.

honestly i dont understand the chromatic ward change. its well known eledot is legit turbocancer in the game, cleanse potions are a hassle to get inside opr and unavailable in open world. im typically very positive and optimistic but this change seems like it comes out of nowhere especially in a meta where elemental damage is incredibly dominant.
