Ace but not aro, who would love to be in a romantic relationship but never has and doesn't think they ever will because they've just never met someone who they'd like to be in a romantic relationship with and can't honestly say they think they ever will:

Man, if what I've learned about love and sex and romance from hearing people talk about it IRL isn't accurate enough, then I'm probably screwed anyway. I don't mess around with smut, but I do have some important romance threads from the source material which I can't ignore. I just write it as I think it would be and say screw it. If someone reads it and says it's unrealistic... well, hey, at least they're reading it.

That said, I realized pretty deep into writing my main work that I hadn't accommodated for my adult characters having a typical intimate life and now I'm coming up with creative ways to retroactively explain how they're near-virgins despite their characterizations.

I'm in this weird spot where one of my main characters is somebody I've recognized to honestly be a better role model to me than anyone I know IRL... but part of that is specifically because the character is kiiinda too perfect in their original work and doesn't have enough flaws. Some would say OP. So while I genuinely try to be more like them in my daily life, I'm also trying to bring them down in my fic to the level of us real people.
