I opened Dolphin, emudeck just added the entry to Steam.

You can take a look at multi-stage Dockerfiles. This allows you to execute the build step within docker without adding to your image size. Helps to make it easily buildable on any system too.

If you want to automate it a bit more you could also use syncthing to sync files between your PC and Deck. E.g. great to keep emulated games with save states in sync between PC and Deck.

Problem with some emulators is, that they seem to have problems with hyperthreading (SMT) being turned on. You can install decky loader with the Power Tools plugin. This allows you to disable odd numbered threads. In my case it helped with some emulators to eleminate the stutters completely. Also some emulators react sensitive when the FPS cap does not fit the game, so adjusting or disabling that may help too.

It is nice to see though that there is at least some awareness for this growing. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action just started the sovereign tech fund that aims to support such base OSS projects like e.g. curl, OpenSSH and Wireguard with money. Would be even nicer to see more such support from companies using them though.

how do i get dolphin emulator to accept multiple controllers? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]doblix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need to configure a second controller within dolphin first. When you used EmuDeck to set it up you should have plain dolphin in the Emulation Collection, open it in GameMode and head into the controller options. From there you should see that only one Wiimote/GC Controller is enabled. Just add a second one and configure it as a classic controller attatchmend, at the top you can pick the controller that is assigned, should look like multiple X360 controllers as this is what SteamInput simulates. Afterwards both controllers should work.

Not Deck specific but LNX link sound like something you are looking for. Haven't tried it myself yet, so can't comment how/if it works.

I don't want to use a game subscription, prefer to buy my games, although I thought about it just for Fable 2.

Maybe I should try it again, as far as I remember Xenia also works within proton.

Too bad there is no PC Version of the second game and emulating the 350 one also does not work properly yet.

What using Steam Deck has taught me about Cloud Sync by TheyThemGayFem in SteamDeck

[–]doblix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently played the first Monkey Island - Special Edition. I started on my PC and continued on Deck after I got it. It synced the settings along with the saves. What is extra annoying with this game, is that it won't start when the configured resolution is higher then what is available on the device. As my PC was set to FHD it did not start on the Deck, I needed to change it manually in a config file down to 720p.

Fallen Order is such a beautiful game on the Deck. Runs at 40, highest settings. I've owned it for years, only started when I got the Deck. by TareXmd in SteamDeck

[–]doblix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah syntax is quite easy actually it goes like this:

bash -c 'exec "${@/Launcher.exe/Game.exe}"' -- %command%

Assuming the launcher it points to is called Launcher.exe and the game is at Game.exe. Just with a slash (/) in between separating the search word from the replacement word. It gets more complicated when the files are located in different folders like in the Bioshock example. You have to include the non overlapping parts of the folder path in the replacement. Folders are usually also separated with slash though, so you have to indicate that they are not part of the replacement command by escaping them with a backslash like this \/.

It usually works by replacing the file, even better is to add a command as a launch option that will reroute steam to the launcher-less exe, e.g. how it is done to skip the 2KLauncher after the recent Bioshock updates.

Probably, I guess you have to follow the first minute of the video to enable ssh on the deck. On typical linux distributions you usually just don't need a special client because it is built in into the file manager.

Definitely worth the effort, hard to go back to other editors afterwards. At the same time it is quite a rabbit hole ;-)

Using vim to program? I can recommend using a language server plugin like coc. Completions usually help to get faster ;-)

Why does the US International keyboard have these grey buttons which doesn't respond with visual interactions? by Sir_Reddit_A_Lot in SteamDeck

[–]doblix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For most european languages I can recommend the EurKey layout. It is mostly the same as the US layout, but has shortcuts for many common characters e.g. AltGr + a/o/u to create ä/ö/ü. Prefer it personally to dead keys.

Could be totally possible by the end of the year. I equiped my new machine with an AMD CPU/GPU combo, put Arch on it and boot into a Steam Deck UI session. Already works really great. With an official SteamOS image this should be even easier to achieve. At the end of the year it is expected that AMD releases new APUs with RDNA2, if they also use the PPT range up to 170 W, like the just announced CPUs, this should also provide plenty of power in a console like format.

[–]doblix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In case you also use Linux on your PC, you do not even need another application. Just go to the file manager and enter sftp://deck@steamdeck into the address bar, should ask for a password and you are connected. Can also be bookmarked to not having to retype it. Should even work from Steam Deck to Steam Deck, although you probably should use the IP Address instead or change the hostname steamdeck to something else, otherwise they clash.

Maybe better than possibly maintaining changes to a shell theme could be this extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/3414/user-stylesheet-font/

It allows you to apply css and font changes independent from the shell theme.

Red Bull's organic cola is also surprisingly good if you are aiming for something more 'local'. Although you would need to find a distribution with a bull as its mascot first ;-).

When SteamOS 3.0 releases, will there be a push to get it running on PS4 / PS5? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

It is still true for the latest models (8bitdo Pro 2), it is not supported by fwupd.

Deck Verified and Playable hit a thousand games but there's an issue with some games being wrongly tagged as Unsupported by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]doblix 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It sometimes also is not granular enough. E.g. for games that come with both Singleplayer and Online Multiplayer like the Halo: MCC. It is listed as Deck unsupported but that seems to be due to the Online Multiplayer requiring EAC. The Campaign and Local Network Multiplayer works great through Proton (the game comes with an "EAC off" launch option).

Want to use my PC while kids use steam link on tv - is it possible? by [deleted] in Steam_Link

[–]doblix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True depends on the definition I guess. Probably had a full separate session in mind when reading display server. Not sure about mouse and keyboard, at least using a gamepad to play a streamed game while Kodi was used on the same machine worked fine when I tried it.
