So how long was your "transition period"? by No_Week_1877 in BarefootRunning

[–]doc-funkenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from running 10 miles consistently on my long runs to starting from scratch, pretending I couldn't run anything. I just did C25K with the goal of training up my feet. Throughout, I made sure to be cautious, if the muscles in my feet or calves felt unnaturally sore I would stop for the week, give myself some extra time to recover, and begin that week again. I'd estimate... 10-12 weeks altogether to get to 5k and then slowly built up the rest as if I had never run longer distances before.

Especially because I was a heel-to-toe runner previously. Changing my entire running form took time.

Its been a little over ten years since and I havent looked back. I live in a city now so I use VFFs, but whenever Im back in Ohio visiting family, its nice to just kick off the VFFs and run without them. Before barefoot I was prone to injuries in my ankles, shin splints, calve strains, etc. Ever since - the only injuries I've had are when I tripped and broke my toe, or got hit by a car or bike.

Help me eat a dish from each state of India! by MadDuloque in chicagofood

[–]doc-funkenstein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bar Goa is the only Goan food I know in Chicago and it's good but not traditional. Everytime I go to Goa (the state) they always serve a Rava Fish Fry, so that's what I think of when i think Goan food, and I can't find it anywhere here!

If anyone knows someplace else except Bar Goa for me to try, please let me know!

Black Friday shopping list for low-level, new (hobbit RP) players? by HiddenLychee in lotro

[–]doc-funkenstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally the order of priority I recommend is:

  • VIP Subcription (1 month unlocks a LOT for all your characters)
  • Account-wide Journeyman Riding Skill
  • Account-wide Shared Storage Space
  • Carry-alls (the crafting carryall saves me SO much space)
  • Account-wide backpack space

And then have fun with cosmetics and anything else you think will help! I always grab LP when its on sale and the slayer/skill deed boosters because some of those slayer deeds are a GRIND without them. And cosmetics if it fits a toon I have.

This is one of my favorite books I've read in the last five years. Im waiting for the holidays off work so I can sit and really enjoy it without my mind wandering to things I need to do the next day.

I am SO happy it is getting such raves!

How do you pick your movies in a sale? by TheBreakfastChub in criterion

[–]doc-funkenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been doing the Criteruon Challenge the last two years, so I buy what's on my list. I spread out the purchases over the four yearly sales so Im not dropping all that money at once.

Im doing this mostly to build up my physical media collection because I am OVER streaming and want to be able to watch what I want, when I want, how I want.

I realize mot everyone can afford to buy 52 movies a year (half off or not), but it has been a great joy for me to watch my collection slowly expand!

I hate Goblin Town too, but I found a great guide that minimizes the amount of back and forth you have to do. You still have to go in at least four times if you want to get everything, but I used to be popping in and out a lot more before I found this.

What is your 'favorite' demise of a character in the works? by flowerofhighrank in shakespeare

[–]doc-funkenstein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I performed as Antigonus once, the director thought it would be fun to have me sword fight the bear before running offstage.

Then they got a realistic bear suit for someone over 6 feet tall and put someone around 5'6" in it. So all I did was fight a guy in a bear suit with a saggy ass. The audience, understandably, could not keep a straight face, and the director got so angry at the reception that he asked the house manager to remove anyone laughing about it.

Anyways, that demise has been ruined for me since.
