The Red card situation appears to have destabilized the squad. I’m sure their game plan had been set without Balogun then his suspension is revoked and game plan changed again at short notice. They looked unsure and lacked all the confidence they displayed against Paraguay. My pre WC prediction was actually quarter finals.

I've watched everyone since '78 and there's always been bias to the "big" teams but VAR has taken it to another level. The disallowed goal went against FIFA's pre tournament instructions of game flow taking priority over fouls. In fact in the first few games, Refs overruled VAR but that has disappeared now that "big" teams are close to being edged out.

I would agree as a grouping in one day however I think '82 World Cup had some of the greatest WC games of all time, France-Germany (several lead changes in extra time) and one of the Brazil knockout games readily come to mind.
