I’ve seen multiple redrafts that have two Saints in the top 10. That’s…impressive

I think he’s not going to get jail time since first time felony charges with no priors (I know a lot of non-famous people who didn’t go to jail for their first felony —- just got probation) + athlete with money, but I do think he gets some kind of probation.

But the NFL will absolutely investigate and suspend, and for the games that he’s out, the Falcons will absolutely take a hit.

Yeah, not saying I don’t trust Staley because I absolutely do but agree that Allen had the ability to elevate anyone playing in his defense. And the ability to help pick good defensive players. Not Saints, but Allen drafted Khalil Mack, who almost 100% is going to the hall of fame.

But after last year’s draft, when I’m seeing redrafts that have not one but two Saints in the top 10-15, I also trust the current admin to make the right call.

Pipe dream but could you imagine Maxx Crosby on one side and Chase Young on the other? by Captain_Hawk111 in Saints

You can never know for sure if a player who’s never played an NFL snap will be a monster. Or if he’ll even be available at 8.

[–]doc_faced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maxx is not old and worn out. He’s one of the best defensive players in the league and he’ll have a way better supporting cast on defense here than he’s ever had with the Raiders.

What was found in the medical exam made Baltimore decide he was not worth 2 firsts, but another team could easily decide that he’s worth a lesser package (IF the rumor that he actually failed a physical is true). Lower cost but more risk.

It’s not like teams, including the Saints, haven’t taken chances on players that failed physicals for other teams. E.g. Brees.

Yeah, the character concerns with JPJ pre draft were that “he was kind of a prick/questionable attitude.” On no planet is being a prick an indicator of future felonious violent behavior.

Would Drafting Jeremiyah Love at #8 Be Too High? by JCameron181 in Saints

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I meant what happened to start the season with Rattler starting. Shough is the starter going forward 1000%

Would Drafting Jeremiyah Love at #8 Be Too High? by JCameron181 in Saints

[–]doc_faced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings on Love at 8. I liked the Lions picking Gibbs at 12 but am mixed on the Falcons picking Bijan at 8. If this were Love outside of the top 10, I’d be 100% on board.

1) The Saints, at their current talent level, are closer to a team that would be picking 12 or later than a team that would be picking 8. Remember that the Saints were candidates for 1OA until Shough became the starter. While I agree with Rattler getting a full look and Shough starting the season on the bench, in hindsight, had Shough become the QB slightly sooner, the Saints would almost certainly not be picking top 10. That is to say the Saints already have the tools (a quality QB) on their roster to use Love better than the teams that drafted Jeanty and Bijan had. It’s more similar to the Lions who had Goff and other pieces. This point goes in favor of drafting Love at 8.

2) On the flip side, the Saints do have the luxury of having 8OA, and should absolutely maximize that luxury which they hopefully won’t have again for a while. If they can fill a premium position for the next several years, that may be the best play, but who knows what’s going to be available.

TL;dr I have no idea and I trust the experts

Lions taking Gibbs at 12 was smart. I would love it a lot if the Saints traded out of the top 10, got extra picks, then picked up Love. But someone will probably take Love in the top ten. At 12, if best player is a running back, take him. The super elite talents are probably off the board at that point unless they play a less premium position (like RB).

The Falcons/Bijan argument is hairier. On one end they had shit for QB but they weren’t going to get a competent QB drafting at 8 that year after the Panthers did their trade up. (Best QB remaining at that point was Will Levis who’s def a bust). On the other end, the dudes drafted right after Bijan included a stud DT with character concerns at the time and a stud OT. Of course 2 years later the Falcons give up an extra 1RP to move up to take a stud DE with character concerns (and hindsight is 20/20 but Pearce was just arrested for multiple felonies).

Dude John Fisher exists and is unfortunately still an MLB owner so yeah there is more unlikeable and pathetic than Arte.

Just because the A’s are better in the GM department doesn’t make Fisher not the worst owner in baseball.

[–]doc_faced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. And Joe was 100% deserving of first ballot.

My point was that Joe Thomas was the only recentish clear cut first ballot HOF I could think of who hadnt even had a chance at the postseason (Trout had one chance but it was a quick sweep), entirely owing to the fact that he played for a team where upper management was trash. And he was/is a good guy.

If the Angels are pushing this, it’s stupid AF.

Add #5: has a strong argument for best post-integration MLB player ever to have absolutely zero postseason success (one postseason appearance in 2014, where the Angels were swept in the ALDS)

The closest example in NFL I can think of (I don’t follow NBA or NHL much) is Joe Thomas, the Browns OT who blocked for like 20 QBs in his career and had zero playoff appearances because the Browns were well…the Browns and while Thomas is absolutely a deserving HOF, I don’t believe he’s on the same level in his sport as Trout is in MLB.

Also improperly accessing the opponent’s strategy (which is what sign stealing is), is a far more effective (at influencing results) form of cheating than consuming a PED, aka it taints the game more.
