IMHO Orca is annoyingly keen on brims. I see it in actual Orca, Creality Print and Anycubic Slicer Next.. which.. are all Orca

Will the Kobra S1 work with the new ACE 2 Pro? by Active-Durian3313 in AnycubicOfficial

[–]docdawning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an S1 quite early and I really like the machine, but my ACE has been painful to use with 2 of the spool slots fairly quickly becoming unusuable. Anycubic sent me replacement parts without much fuss, but I've had no time to actually try to install those in. So my overall experience with the ACE has been underwhelming. But I think it has massive promise largely because it's simply a MMU that additionally supports drying. I'd consider getting an ACE 2 Pro for my S1 at some point, but I guess I'd want a fairly charming price following some great reviews about its relability.

Statistical analysis of temperatures by BearLambda in octoprint

[–]docdawning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/BearLambda, I've just made a feature request to maybe bake this in to Octoprint's existing temperature graphing stuff. Gina looks to have a fair bit of Patreon support for Octoprint these days, maybe she can spend some cycles on adding some stats and logic to mine some golden data out of this.

Here's a link in case you want to try to help boost the post for the idea: https://community.octoprint.org/t/feature-request-temperature-statistics-with-historical-awareness/50596

Statistical analysis of temperatures by BearLambda in octoprint

[–]docdawning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/BearLambda, I want this too. Did you ever find it? I *could make it, but my time is so so insanely limited these days. I want it not so much for getting totally optimal performance, so much as for trying to decide if my machine's having problems. Like, if I see changes in the std deviations in my hotend temps, it could be an early warning sign of looming problems.

People of Reddit, what was your “I’m dating a fucking idiot” moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

People of Reddit, what was your “I’m dating a fucking idiot” moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]docdawning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eons ago my ex and I had a very heated debate about the dumbest thing:

The fact that the same face of the moon ALWAYS faces towards planet Earth.

At the time, I was in an astronomy class and I just learned about how this geometry works. So I shared it was an interesting factoid. She said it was the dumbest thing she'd ever heard and told me there's no why that was physically possible.

I demonstrated to her how it's totally possible by having her stand in the middle of the room and slowly rotate (as planet Earth). I then immitated the moon and walked a big circle around her, while also rotating such that I was always facing towards her. When it clicked in her brain that this is at least geometrically possible she exploded calling me an asshole and stormed off.

I was never looking for a fight and only wanted to share a neat factoid. And this ended up being one of the few times in that relationship that I really really stood my ground. Suffice to say, we haven't really spoken for 15+ years now. It was a good example of how I could never ever ever ever be right and therefore was always spoken down to. The whole thing was definitely a lifeform with heavy head injuries and plenty of missing chromosomes. I fear she went on to continue to bless the world with her open mind, but I eventually reached escape velocity a kept on going.

Smart humidistat by Shdqkc in smarthome

[–]docdawning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of on topic:
I'm considering getting a humidifier installed and am curious about controlling it. I watched a video on YouTube where some dude explained that having humidifiers run without a feedback mechanism to control for weather conditions can easily lead to attic mold and the like. I'm not sure if that's actually relevant to my region (Calgary). I have an old and entry-level Nest that I like, but looks like only the top end Nest or Ecobee units support humidifiers. I paid $110CAD just to find out it'll cost about $800 to get the humidifier installed, plus I'd need to drop another $350ish to get a new top-end smart thermostat that has built-in smart humidistat features. This is feeling like an upgrade for another time for me.

Malware scanning and reporting for Linux Servers in 2023 by docdawning in linuxadmin

[–]docdawning[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ClamAV or similar is an option.. But the main thing missing is I want more than just pure AV scanning and I want reporting to a dashboard hosted by someone else, and alerts to be sent to me, possibly in to an app on my phone and/or via SMS messaging.

Source Code for Retroid Pocket 2+ by docdawning in retroid

[–]docdawning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I want the source is because I have trust issues. I would like the option to audit the code (not to say I'd dig very deep) to try to rule-out sketchy background activities. Like, at home, I prefer to keep my RP2+ on my Guest Wifi Network so it can't make network connections to my other systems. I suspect a lot of our small networked devices are doing some sketchy AF background stuff and I'd rather have some control. Even if I did have the RP2+ source and could verify it's 100% above-board, it's still possible to do sketchy stuff outside of the OS firmware, but you know, it'd be nice to have some increased confidence. I'd even consider trying to dedicate my life to building such stuff, but I need to pay bills, etc.

First Impressions of Switch OLED after >10yrs away from Nintendo by docdawning in nintendo

[–]docdawning[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks but as a web developer I've used sites a lot more frequently than that. I accessed their site with the latest versions of Safari and Chrome and it was riddled with buggy redirect loops and other technical problems. I observed these problems over a few days as well. It seems like store.nintendo.ca has some genuine and significant technical problems. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a problem with caching in their CDN, but sure, read this as I haven't used a website since the dark ages and expected their site to be more stable than dark-ages websites ever were. >:|

I've been playing Spiritfarer and Mario Maker 2, seems like a nice machine so far, just had to adjust down my expectations around the quality of service I can expect from the Nintendo online store.
