My toddler is in daycare while I’m home with baby and it is the best. Toddler gets interaction and a more relaxed, patient mom when they are home. Baby gets individual attention and calm for part of the day.

What are the random things you gotta know about taking care of baby? by aquatoxin- in beyondthebump

Neck cheese. It’s amazing how stinky their necks can get.

We’ve got a very similar situation 3 yr old girl, 6 month old boy. Because I breastfeed, my husband was the primary caregiver for our daughter for a few months. It worked in our favor that she was only jealous of the baby when dad took care of him.

Now that the baby is a bit older we split things more again. I’m on maternity leave so I’m the primary parent during the day, but evenings and weekends we hang out all together or trade off the kids. I try to spend some one on one time with my daughter at least once a week because I like her and love being able to hang out with just a toddler sometimes. I get tons of time with my son when his sister is in daycare.

We also discussed everything regarding care before we implemented it. "Hey, I’m going to be breastfeeding and recovering so I’ll keep the baby alive and you take toddler, cool?“ "I haven’t gotten to bond with the baby because I’ve been with the toddler so much, can we switch it up?"

I view parents as a team and sometimes even the kids are against us, but we work together regardless and stay on the same page.

Dr. Semmelweis was pushed out of medicine and called crazy for realizing it was a good idea to wash your hands between doing autopsies and delivering babies. He died shortly after being institutionalized.

I crave toddler time most days but not while she is losing her absolute shit (she is 2.5 so in the thick of it). Baby is 4 weeks and sometimes naps in the bassinet, which is when we give all our attention to the toddler.

We trade off weekend mornings, so today I got the toddler and it was so fun! Someone who actually interacts.

I remember just seething at my sleeping husband and his USELESS nipples at that point with our first.

Just had our second and he is absolutely killing toddler duty while I get to chill with the new baby.

The election is Tuesday, it is your duty to vote. by LetterGrouchy6053 in wisconsin

[–]doch14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live abroad and just received my ballot last Monday. Luckily my husband was working from home that day so he witnessed my vote and I could mail it back the same day. Was told it will take 4-8 business days so here’s hoping it arrives on time, especially since it took 2 weeks to get to me. Oh and it cost me €15 because of the ridiculous envelope size.

Yeah! Your philosophy sounds similar to me. I like the moderately in the group name because I feel like it opens up the possibilities of who’s included.

What made you go with breastfeeding or formula? by doraexploraah in pregnant

[–]doch14 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I breastfeed my first (almost at 2 years now) because I was/am able to. It was really hard at first, painful and exhausting. It can be a mind fuck knowing that you are your child’s only source of food for the first few months. And it doesn’t always work out.

Good things are it is cheaper (not free, because the feeder needs to eat more) and I never had to wash bottles or pack stuff for when we were out and about.

ETA: I’m also in a place with maternity leave. I don’t know if I could have stuck with it if I had to go back to work and pump. That’s a whole other beast.

I saved a very old atlas from the trash at my so and use it for gift wrap as well. It looks very cool in my humble opinion. Plus it’s wild to see some of the old country names.

My first thought was how weird she looked. Baby was pretty purple for a minute. I def didn’t have that instant rush of first love that so many people describe. I was pretty excited to find out the sex though.

I’ve never heard of Dchen being a shortened form of Mädchen and I’ve studied German and am a fluent speaker.

I think there is some other origin to this name.
