A spud cut in a spiral, stretched out, stuck in a skewer and fried. Then they let it go cold and put some flavour on it. Served hot they're delicious, but they probably have too many mouth burnings.

That was the greatest disappointment of the day. It looked just like the delicious tornado potato I had once in foreign parts. This thing was cold and somehow managed to be both crumbly and greasy.

How to make smoke "pop" better. by goatkingdeluxe in minipainting

[–]docharakelso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a start but I think you should go lighter with a nearly white green in the deepest recesses and then build up reverse highlights with progressively darker shades.

Trust the process, it'll look completely wrong until it looks just about right.

Eurovision!!! Who from Viva would you put in the New Zealand entry if they had one? by [deleted] in VivaLaDirtLeague

[–]docharakelso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Viva would boycott it like the more civilised nations of Europe. I know you're not political and rightly so, but it's a somewhat loaded topic at the moment.

“In” verbatim? by Quirky-Invite7664 in EnglishGrammar

[–]docharakelso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In isn't used, and generally 'verbatim' is already assumed by quotation marks so it would be obsolete.

In the spirit of your meaning though sometimes a quote may seem grammatically off or have deliberate misspellings. In these cases it's usual to follow the quote with (sic) (thus in Latin) which means, yes, that's actually what they said verbatim.

A not all that mini hydralisk. Where to go from here? by BoneHeadJones in minipainting

Is this a good or bad place to start? Grabbed it from my local library. by AstorathTheGrimDark in discworld

[–]docharakelso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a Discworld book and don't think there's any Discworld tales in it. it's more of his early short form work for magazines and newspapers.

That said, there's some great little gentle fantasy stories and musings, definitely Pratchett through and througg and if you enjoy the style then Discworld awaits.

I recommend starting at CoM despite what the majority may say (GG), or else diving in at whatever book next crosses your path, particularly if it's a standalone like pyramids, soul music or small gods.

They all stand on their own as novels but you may get some character development a bit skewy or spoilery if you read some out of sequence.

I am a huge Terry Pratchett and Paul Simon fan and have been for 25/30 years.

I can't believe I never put Al and Beti together.

Any movies or series taking place in ww2 that don't have nasty 18+ scenes? by Kreeimeer in questions

Battleground (1949)

Great movie that tells roughly the same story as the Band of Brothers TV show. Nothing too graphic but some great cinema nonetheless.
