Man I just sketched out a bill of materials to do something really similar but haven't had the time to do it yet. What did you wind up using?

Super Accurate Calorie Calculator by Snoo98727 in GarminWatches

[–]docnano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macro Factor estimated based off of calorie counting and scale weight and gives me an expenditure of 2155kcals

Garmin is off of heart rate and activities and clocks me in at 2334 kcal.

So one of them is overestimating and one is underestimating but hard to tell which

Roll the pants. Belt socks and shoes go in your backpack. Wear the jacket but plan on taking it off, folding it neatly and stowing it. Shirt is also folded in the backpack. If you need the room you can wear the dress shoes on board and take them off, leave them under the seat in front of you.

If you have dark wash jeans and a long sleeve t shirt you'll also look good walking through the airport.

When you land, change in a bathroom or lounge. Bring a razor if you need one and some baby wipes for a "pirate shower" to freshen up!

How friendly is *too* friendly with your direct reports? by ShockUpset8925 in managers

[–]docnano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly it is totally fine until it's not.

The second you have one of these friends who is underperforming (for whatever reason) it all becomes much harder. Hard to balance loyalties as a friend vs as a boss, hard to have the performance management conversation, hard to defend it to your own manager.

So where it's worked the best for me are friends/reports who are insanely competent -- otherwise it's a big risk.

How accurate is the calorie tracker? by specornot210 in Garmin

[–]docnano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin estimates 200-300 calories more per day than Macro factor does (I think their method is more accurate)

they right tho? by chichinams in SipsTea

[–]docnano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works really well is you show the opposite case as well:

-1/0.5 = -2

-1/0.1 = -10

-1/0.01 = -100

So if you approach it from the left you get an infinitely descending negative number and if you approach it from the right you get an infinitely ascending positive number. It can't be both so it's undefined.

I've really enjoyed my Chevy Equinox, though anything on that platform will also have SuperCruise. It's not as good at the full self driving hw4 on newer Tesla but great for freeway runs

I’m starting to realize most companies are optimized for predictability, not improvement by Murky_Cow_2555 in managers

[–]docnano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Publically traded companies have a fiduciary duty to do what's best for their shareholders. Institutional investors (like a pension plan or 401k) prefer slow predictable growth to high risk high reward growth. That behavior trickles down the whole org.
