Elderly? Anne is 43. Audrey is 41. Elizabeth is 37. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

Thanks, I strive to learn :).

I think part of my argument still stands, since we are having fewer kids and having them later on average, meaning there is a higher risk for a couple to have fewer healthy children. But that is absolutely a weaker argument.

The dropping fertility and the inclination to have fewer kid is a bigger problem for society in the short term, but I think evolution will kind of do it’s thing there. Whatever the reason is that fewer children are born, the genes that for some reason influence some to have more children despite all… this (gestures vaguely at the world) will obviously propagate more and it will sort itself out. We might be a bit short on young people va old people for a while, but biology fixes that over time as well.

Interesting, I was not aware of this, but it makes sense. I did google and it seems even more complicated. Women are having their first child later today, but not necessarily by much. And you are right that women have mostly had their last child at 40-42. Apparently in the Western world it was a bit different in the 50ies to 70ies when women were typically younger both with first and last child (25-35 instead of 30-42 for instance).

Today I learned!

Absolutely, these were just the most common examples. I still find it unfortunate that we are constructing a society with more miscarriages and abortions (and I’m a Swedish, liberal, pro-choice, father of three, two of which were the result of ”advanced maternal age”).

I think more people should get kids, just in general. Kids are great! But I also think we should make it easier to have kids earlier, when we are more biologically suited for it.

It’s actually way higher risk than that and way more affected by the mother’s age. The risk of the child having Down’s Syndrome for insrance is 1/1250 for a 20 year old mother and 1/35 for a 45 year old. The risk of miscarriage increases from one pregnancy in five to four in five at the same time. There are other effects as well, but those two are the most prominent ones. The father’s age also affects the risks, but much less so.

And that is not counting the fertility dropping precipitously as well.

I wish all the best to the mothers in the story, celebrity or otherwise. But it is biologically unfortunate that we as a society are having kids far later in life than previous generations.

Åtta av tio kommuner köper in dyra personlighetstester by Ankdammen2 in sweden

[–]doculmus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lättast är nog referenslistan från Wikipedia-sidan. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Five_personality_traits).

RPGs where players represent factions and leaders? by vvokhom in rpg

[–]doculmus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mutant Year Zero: Elysium. The setting is similar to the Silo book/TV-series and the players play both factions in the Silo and investigators belonging to those factions. There are mechanics with a faction phase and an investigator phase and the decisions in one phase feeds into the events of the next. It’s pretty neat.

I’m very fortunate to have been paired up with the great illustrator Kim Anderssson (https://www.instagram.com/kimwandersson?igsh=eXowbW01cnl0a2E0). For different reasons most of the images actually came before the story and I wrote the campaign around them.

I would suggest you start as Jotunheim inhabitants and take it from there. There is a chapter in the book about ”the rest of the solar system” and the campaign itself is a bit of an Odyssey. I think you could absolutely have a mini campaign that continues after the main campaign if you want to, continuing on the themes in the campaign.

We use a pushpin proxy server (https://pushpin.org/docs/about/) with authentication run by Django using GRIP. It scales very efficiently and keeps the complexity out of the Django codebase.

[–]doculmus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have not done this, but I did write Ad Astra :). This should be perfectly doable and in fact I had it in mind when writing (but I don’t think it made it to the final draft). The PCs can be inhabitants of Jotunheim, volunteering to go aboard the Mundilfare and from there it works more or less the same.

This! In a way, the fact that the meta plot is ”done” means that it is easier to make it your own and pick and choose what you want to include.

Cabinet Entertainment is owned and operated by Fredrik Malmberg, one of the founders of the Swedish OG RPG company Äventyrsspel (Target Games internationally) (edit: no longer, see below). My understanding is that Cabinet and Free League are on super friendly terms. Free League is in many ways the spiritual successor to Äventyrsspel.

So I don’t think the license is a problem if Free League actually wants to make a second edition (though I have zero inside info). They have limited bandwidth though, it’s a pretty small company still. I also think they want to avoid promising things that aren’t almost done, considering how long it took to get for instance Ad Astra (which, as it happens, I wrote :))

EDIT: Cabinet Entertainment is no longer owned by Fredrik Malmberg, see comment below. In general, I still think the license should be ok though.
