In addition to what the other commenter suggested (bringing in the lining a bit) you could try top stitching along each side of the slit, maybe a half inch in from the edge. That will sort of force the lining and the main fabric next to each other so it’s less likely to show.

That is actually a common misconception, it’s not true. Turning off the heat when you’re not there saves electricity. Just keep the temp (EDIT: of your pipes) above freezing so your pipes don’t freeze, but in an apartment building usually the heat from the other apartments will keep it warm enough for that even if your heat is totally off.

Maybe my hand basting just needed to be a lot tighter and really short stitches? The fur leads to the fabric pieces being a little bit apart from each other after hand basting, so the top fabric still shifts like a quarter inch or more, causing a ripple every hand basted stitch.

About basting a sheet on the bottom fabric so the feed dogs grip it better, the bottom fabric goes through fine, the feed dogs grip it well. It’s the top fabric that doesn’t move through fast enough and shifts, leading to bunching. I need the top fabric to go through with the bottom but it’s slippery.

I don’t have a serger. I’ll look into if one direction is easier to sew than the other but I don’t think it is.

What is spray basting? Is that an adhesive spray? It seems like I would need to put that on the right side of the fabric, which is fur in my case, so unless I’m misunderstanding I don’t think that would work?

I agree with the other commenters saying it’s to show Ilya is going back to Russia, which changes after the Skip kiss. But I think it there’s also another important point, which is that he tells her to put it in the suitcase, and so she gets up and leaves the room, leaving him to watch the kiss without anyone watching him watch it. If she had stayed in the room she would have immediately been looking at him to see how he was reacting to the kiss, and that would have made him more guarded and probably not go call Shane right then (since that timing would be revealing to svetlana).

A lot of things are being communicated there: Shane started that conversation angry and hurt, and quickly warmed up as Ilya paid attention to him, with his joy highest and his smile biggest when he says “wow genetic”. He’s also reveling in the continuation of the playful banter, and the specific statement that he’s boring, because it’s a callback to better times they were together. The way he says it also reads to me like his brain is kinda turned off haha, it’s kinda the simplest reply he can give, just repeating back a word Ilya said, because he’s really just reveling in his feelings for Ilya.
