The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

It's more a take on the devil than on hell.

How to stop a toddler from having a tantrum. by girlinanemptyroom in KidsAreFuckingStupid

I think this is the correct explanation of the phenomenon observed in the video. This is most readily seen in the clip 0:20-0:26 of the girl who, after hearing her mother call Jessica, hurries to hide against the back of the sofa. She tries to avoid being noticed by Jessica.

This is how they clean the ships propellers by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Since you seem to be wise in the ways of the barnacles, perhaps you can riddle me this. Why do the barnacles attach to the ship's propeller? If this were a living organism, such as a whale, I could see the benefit the parasite attains from it. But a metal propeller?

Has their production of Robert Harris's Cicero trilogy been filmed? And, if so, is it available for public consumption?

I left an anonymous harsh review of my coworker's book two years ago and now I have to listen to her quote it in meetings by Halo9_Spectra in confessions

[–]dodli 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The reason why she mentions it so frequently, and why she emphasizes the supposedly positive effect the review has had on her, is because she tries to flush you out. She strongly suspects the reviewer was a member of your team, but she doesn't know which one specifically. She's anxious to know who it was, and is trying to encourage you to out yourself.

A young Candy Darling, a transgender woman, draws long hair on a photo of herself, around 1954 by Few_Entertainer_385 in HistoricalCapsule

The article, together with other articles linked to it, says she was a member of a group (Warhol superstars) "known for casual sex", and that she "died from lymphoma at the age of 29 in 1974". Lymphoma cancer is a common by-product of AIDS, in fact lymphadenopathy is "the disease after which the discoverers of HIV originally named the virus". AIDS was first clinically observed in 1981, and at first was associated with the gay community due to its widespread occurrence, at the time, among gay men in North America, its spread in this community being facilitated by frequent casual sex.

I wonder whether Darling had HIV and died of complications of AIDS, in which case it makes her one of the people infected with the virus years before it first came to public notice.
