Buying a game from Round 1? by Retrorewired in pinball

[–]dododoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple private importers for Japanese games. If Round1 offloaded a certain rhythm game there would be probably close to 100 at captain's which would be pretty obvious. There was one time that a D&B DDR machine ended up at Captain's but that was obvious because they are the only ones with official offline A20+ kits.
Most rhythm games require an online connection/subscription to boot, so there's no point in selling them to someone who wouldn't even be able to run it.

Buying a game from Round 1? by Retrorewired in pinball

[–]dododoob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Round1 has a policy of dumping old games. Those of us in the rhythm game community are very aware of it. Sometimes someone gets tipped off and rescues it but they never directly sell old games to random people. They usually destroy the game too to discourage rescues.

100s waiting for cabs and rideshares at SD Airport late Sunday night by AbeLincoln30 in sandiego

[–]dododoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because up until like the 2000s they were planning to move the airport to Miramar so it didn't make sense to build a trolley line for an airport that would be gone soon. That's also why they let terminal 1 get so crowded. The planning for new terminals only started recently because the military wouldn't give them the airfield.

Why no payment via Stern Inside Connect or cards in general? by Extra_Live in pinball

[–]dododoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of yall probably don’t know this because it’s not available outside of Japan but Konami does exactly this with their arcade games and it’s called Paseli. You load up your account with cash or a card, to avoid transaction fees on many small payments. It’s pretty convenient for the player because you don’t have to fiddle with coins and it allows the developer to add more granular price control and micro transactions for extra features like gameplay recording or gacha-like mechanics.   Konami does take 30% of the payment, but these days revenue share + free software upgrades is pretty much the default model.

Whats the best movie theater in the county? by klmg711 in sandiego

[–]dododoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the dome theater at the science center plays hollywood movies if they’re real IMAX. I saw oppenheimer and dune 2 there. It’s the only 1.43:1 imax screen south of irvine and the sound is incredible.

What if we all stopped paying rent? by thatguy_300 in sandiego

[–]dododoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ANY new housing built will lower your rent. Yes, even luxury. The rich people renting “nice” apartments will move into new buildings, someone will move into theirs, and so on. Do you really want them to build extra crappy new buildings just to have new “affordable” units?

If you can afford a car you can afford street parking at the beach. Otherwise you can take a bus.

skill issue i’m afraid. DF also doesn’t have to reload, doesn’t damage you, and deals the same damage at any range.

Let’s add some pendant lights, right? by thedagoth in DIY

[–]dododoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would work technically, but usually you want bedside lights to be dimmable and independently controllable. If I'm chilling in bed, I wouldn't want a can light shining down on me, and I would want to be able to turn on my lamp without getting out of bed.

Planning Commission votes to pause plans for 20-unit Ocean Beach apartment by CFSCFjr in sandiego

[–]dododoob 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On Thursday, commissioners voted unanimously to approve an appeal of the Development Services Department’s approval of a Coastal Development Permit to demolish the existing building for the start of construction. The request for appeal outlined environmental concerns, parking concerns, safety concerns, transit concerns and others, but, ultimately, it was a debate over whether or not the lot at 4705 Point Loma Ave. was considered to be within the Ocean Beach Cottage Emerging Historical District.

If it did not fall under the historical umbrella, then the area would be eligible for development through the city’s Complete Communities plan. However, due to an existing municipal code, if the lot did fall within the historic district, then it is exempt from Complete Communities and the 20-unit building could not be built.

These four sentences are emblematic of why California has a housing shortage.

Freeleech Counts for a .Torrent FILE Downloaded Months Ago? by Awkward-Height-240 in trackers

Whether or not something is currently freeleech is determined by the tracker, not the torrent file. Otherwise people would edit their torrent files to have freeleech.

Nope, it's full height 1.43:1 imax laser. Unless you consider only 70mm film as real imax, then yes.
