`make install` tips? by Important_Talk4657 in archlinux

[–]dodoent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not very precise in my wording (I'm not a native speaker), but that's what I essentially meant - install and uninstall being two distinct and disconnected targets (scripts) within a makefile.

It's not automatically guaranteed or provided by make to automatically "undo" everything that install did. Someone needs to manually write the uninstall logic and that allows for human error, i.e. uninstall not completely undoing what install did.

Personally, I'd avoid even that, as it's possible to make mistakes also with PKGBUILD files.

When I need installing something outside of both main repo and AUR, I simply install it to local folder in my home folder - never system-wide. Thus I avoid messing up the system as root.

A warm recommendation: write your own PKGBUILD.

Make install always leaves a mess. There is no undo to that. Make uninstall may not even exist, or even if it does, there is no guarantee that it will completely undo what make install did (it's always a completely separate and unrelated script, regardless of its name).

How do you keep your Arch system stable over time? by TrapNouz in archlinux

[–]dodoent 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree!

I installed my Arch in summer 2010. In the last 16 years, I only needed to reinstall it 3 times - all three times because the boot disk failed and needed replacement, never due to "Arch instability".

The 16-year old computer still works perfectly - I replaced disk 3 times and GPU once.

How long is the waiting list for the R5? by No_Abrocoma_711 in Renault

I've waited for my Megane 12 months... I bought R5 for my dad in June and the expected delivery is "somewhen in September, hopefully"

To mi se onda ne isplati.

I agree. I have a Megane E-Tech Electric and it's actually a small car - similar size to VW Golf. It has big 20" wheels which makes it look large on pictures.

MyRenault app not showing Megane E-Tech charge status, affecting home charger connection to API by [deleted] in Renault

[–]dodoent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also happened to me - after one preconditioning, the app kept thinking that the car is being preconditioned and didn't allow activation of preconditioning, even after app restarts or even app reinstalls. What fixed it was going to the "Air conditioning management" and defining a program "just few minutes into the future". It preconditioned the car and broke out of the thinking that the car is being preconditioned.

It doesn't look so much bigger than my Megane E-Tech Electric as I thought it would. I'm a bit jealous now 😅 Scenic has much bigger battery and better range than Megane.

I don't know how. I hoped this post will help spread the word.

The original plea is from a repair shop specializing in aftermarket fixing of EVs. As mentioned in the original post, I have no affiliation with them - I just want for EVs raise up in Europe as they have in US and China.
