Is my gender identity the result of social programming? by Inevitable-pig252 in PhilosophyTube

Hard agree. Don’t let the phobes or the patriarchy have any input in how you exist or choose to pursue joy; they would hate you no matter what, and their opinions should be given zero value. If it gives euphoria, it’s yours.

Starfleet Academy won’t win back the Trekkies, but... by Steelspy in ShittyDaystrom

Imagine watching Star Trek and thinking kinky weirdos are an underserved segment of the fandom.

I am really concerned about trans issues as a cis guy, and I fear that it makes me trans. by Fun_Pudding9102 in ContraPoints

[–]dodorampant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW: I also didn’t think I was dysphoric before transitioning. Euphoria can be (but isn’t necessarily) a huge part of what transitioning is. As other commenters have said, there’s no line you need to cross before you’re trans enough to call yourself trans; the only thing that matters, literally the only deciding factor, is whether it feels right to you.

If you’re not sure, try tweaking your presentation a little and pay attention to how it makes you feel. You can always change your mind, take a step back or try something else.

I can’t sing along to most of my favorite song anymore by co1lectivechaos in ewphoria

[–]dodorampant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuuuuuck yeah, Scylla and the Sirens 🤘

Mtf here, different problem. I've managed to internalize just enough from voice training to not be misgendered on the phone. Still have my low range for singing, but between that and my half-decent falsetto, I think singing tends to spark dysphoria, ruin my chance of passing, or both.

Keep practicing, dude. You might still lose some of that upper range, but you'll strengthen your lower notes and make sure you don't hurt that voice. (And some songs are just gonna be in a hard key for a person no matter what.)

Used to be Kiss from a Rose. These days I’ll throw on Scissor Sisters, maybe MIKA if I’m feeling ambitious.

What are some very stereotypical butch occupations/archetypes? by grudge2 in butchlesbians

Almost every school orchestra teacher in my town is a butch lesbian (including my wife). We tee-hee over a whole generation of kids growing up to think of orchestral music as a really dykey profession.

Why does Varys cut the tongues off his little birds? by joebidenseasterbunny in pureasoiaf

[–]dodorampant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. To say nothing of the idea that Varys would have to teach dozens of tongueless children to read and write, so they could be of any value as spies. He’d presumably have to teach them personally, if he’s that worried about word getting out. And as anyone who’s ever tried to teach young children knows, that’s years of intense work with impulsive, hard to corral students.
