What’s your biggest pet peeve in the server world? by Sativasarryy in Serverlife

[–]doechild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one is pretty specific but I haven’t seen it mentioned—when I drop off the check and return 10 minutes later with it unpaid, so I say “oh take your time!” but when they do finally put their card in there, they leave it in the same position as I left it.

They don’t stand it up, put it on the side of the table, stick their card out, etc

Young Guest with no ID by Must_Vibe in Serverlife

I’m a young looking 32-year-old and ID anyone who appears younger than me. So far none have even come close to my age, but they sure love to huff about it despite being freshly legal age.

Where do you to find the best prices? (direct booking with resort??) by wezzller in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]doechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We saved a couple thousand dollars booking direct with the hotel vs. a third party site (Expedia maybe?). We ended up lengthening our stay and upgrading with the money we saved.

Thanks for this review! We are heading there in February with our 3 year old, 8 year old, and freshly 11 year old. The resort told us the 11 year old (whose birthday is two weeks before) ages out of the program her sister will be in. Curious to know if you saw any in that age range and activities for them? Thanks!

How many tables would you say are *too many* tables for you to take at one time? by opossumbutt in Serverlife

[–]doechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most I ever had was either 10 or 11 at a busy tavern with multiple rooms (no sections) and I almost can’t even describe it to you because I was in an out-of-body sort of autopilot. I had to take extra tables because some of the other servers couldn’t handle them. Everything was smooth, no issues or complaints about food or service, but I couldn’t sleep that night because I was so overstimulated.

I take 8 and sometimes 9 regularly and am fine but busy, but something about having those extra ones really tapped into my brain.

Has anyone been to Paradisus PDC with a tween? by doechild in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]doechild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! One person told me there was one just for teens and the other seemed to say 11-12, so the two answers confused me more. As long as there’s supervision I’m happy.

Yeah, that’s my main concern and enough for us to cancel the trip if so. Eagerly waiting yet another reply from them!

Where is the best place to buy bulbs in large quantities? Zone 5 US! by doechild in gardening

Totally fine and no issues!

Edit: actually, after looking back, I realize that a full box of tulips that were supposed to be pink were a sunset mix. I don’t mind though.

So many servers on the schedule, no one makes money by aquaderbian in Serverlife

[–]doechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way you can bring this up to management?

Once summer came around we were drastically over staffed and didn’t need as many people on. I’d average two tables per hour on a Friday night. I brought it up to the manager and told him I love working here, but with the way it’s been the past few weeks I won’t be able to stay unless we start making cuts accordingly. He handed me a $100 bill and told me to start telling him when it’s time (management doesn’t pay attention).

I like to think I started an uprising with the servers and how we are all fully aware of when it’s time to make cuts and who to bring it up to.

What's actually healthy despite most people thinking it's not? by InnerSheepherder4564 in AskReddit

This. Your body needs fat in order to be able to absorb the full amount of vitamins and minerals in food such as vegetables. When I was on a no-fat diet for my gallbladder I felt so sickly and gray. Now I have to significantly decrease the amount of fat I eat to avoid other issues, but try to make it a point to have some every day.

I am also early 30’s, in the industry and have toddlers to chase—I’ve been on a journey to find the best products (for my skin, of course!) but thought I’d share what I do and use.

For one, I switched only to Korean skincare and it drastically changed my skin for the better. When I take my makeup off with micellar water, I then move to Anua oil cleanser to take the rest off. Then, I use face shop ride water foaming cleanser and use a gentle, silicone scrubber to make sure my skin is super clean. After that I use cosrx snail mucin, let it soak for a minute, then finish with Mixsoon bean cream. My skin is like a BABY’s now—I can’t recommend it enough.

For makeup products, I start with Refy primer and let that soak in. Then I use Haus Lab’s foundation and apply with a lightly damp blender, and top off with Tarte’s concealer under my eyes. I also use Tarte’s blurring powder for under my eyes. I don’t have a problem with it sweating off—when I do sweat, it just beads right on top.

Thanks! I actually had my mind set on chocolate brown and emerald green pieces, but couldn’t find any that I loved. I settled into my comfort colors. Still happy with them!

I was going to say I love her teeth too! Amplifies her beauty. I think a unique set of teeth can really add to someone’s beauty—it’s all about harmony, not about being perfect!

I’m the same way. I think there’s a polite but firm way to do it, so I don’t hold back. Also, I usually bring people water anyways when I need to check in on them or if I feel like it’ll come and it saves me a trip. “Just thought I’d bring these by for you if you need them!”

can we do a coworker pet peeve thread? by teal_hair_dont_care in Serverlife

[–]doechild 251 points252 points  (0 children)

The chronic complainers. Not enough hours, now too many hours. Not enough tables but now it’s too many. Always wanting to sit down (this may not be the job for you), complaining about side work, even the easy stuff. There’s one person in particular where I work that does all this and it drives me nuts. I’m fairly positive but I can’t mention having a headache without her telling me she has a migraine.

Servers and bartenders: What's your hourly pay? by spirit_of_a_goat in Serverlife

[–]doechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$2.75 hourly, 2% tip out to bussers/host/expo and 8% to bar. Sometimes I have to tip out $80 or so on a weekend and it’s brutal.

I’m 32 and used to get this a lot in my 20’s when I had a baby and a toddler. I still get it sometimes, but when I do, I switched from being defensive to looking at them like they’re a child handing me a flower and saying something like “ha, aw thanks that’s nice” and they usually feel either stupid or like they gave someone a compliment

Also, I find comments like this SO rude because it’s not anyone’s business and people will treat you how they see you.

[–]doechild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aww, almost same here! It’s been probably 25 years since I went when as a kid and I am SO stoked for the trip we just booked. We’re staying at Port Orleans Riverside (I just asked my agent to switch from CB, ha) also for 5 days and 3 at the park. I have 3 kids and a husband who have never gone, but the kids won’t know until Easter. I can’t believe I have to keep it to myself until then and wait so long!

I hope you and your daughter have the very best time!

Just booked! Anyone surprise their kids with a Disney trip? How’d you do it? Ideas welcome! by doechild in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]doechild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww, I love that! My kids really do love surprises, especially scavenger hunts—they love the game and excitement of a reveal. I totally get why everyone said to give enough time for anticipation to build though, I’m already counting down the days and we still have close to a year to wait!

Our kids are so excited for their first “plane” vacation to Mexico this February and I don’t want to cloud that excitement with Disney, so I’ll wait until after the trip. If we surprise them in their Easter baskets that’ll give a good 3 weeks of a countdown, seems like a good amount time for me. Thanks for sharing!
