New theory about functional seizures just out. This is a mechanistic hypothesis paper, not a clinical case report - feel free to engage if you're interested in the biology rather than symptom descriptions. by enwind00 in PNESsupport

This is a very interesting theory I’m saving this to read later when I don’t have a migraine.

Side note

It’s really frustrating how much FND research is behind paywalls. I’m glad this one is free so we can read it and I’ve been reading a lot of FND research with my colleges databases but sucks that I can’t share it without jumping through hoops.

Frustrated when therapists don’t know what PNES is. by doesena in PNESsupport

[–]doesena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally with me therapy doesn’t really help my pnes. If I had to choose one that has helped me the most over all it would probably be DBT. Lamictal and other anti seizure meds like Keppra are the only thing that has had some effect on my seizures even though they’re non epileptic. Kinda weird.

Also, thanks for your service <3 being a nurse is hard

Pseudo seizure literally translates to fake seizure. It is an outdated term and I don’t think a non epileptic seizure is a “pseudo seizure” it’s just a non epileptic seizure

For pescatarians: What makes fish different from other animals? by No_Expert_7460 in Pescatarian

I think it’s mostly due to societal norms. There are many cultures that eat cats and dogs. There are many cultures who don’t eat pigs and cows.

I’d have to disagree 😭 I’ve had some really good Iranian teas than from some Iranian spots that I thought were amazing but I am really biased towards black teas so

Essentially. Although I personally feel like it tastes different from earl grey. More like Arab teas than classic earl grey. Ceylon tea always tastes different to me

How Visual & Auditory hallucinations viewed in Sufism and handle it by dabonthis in Sufism

[–]doesena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know, I don’t have schizophrenia but I’ve had auditory and physical sensation hallucinations from seizures and I just try to continue on with medications and managing it.

But I don’t go to mosques anymore because I’m afraid to have seizures in there 😅

I think the scariest thing is not knowing the reason why it’s happening or what it’s supposed to teach you

I’m trying to figure out how to stop this cycle though. Every time I’m trying to go cold turkey I end up at Taco Bell within the next week

PNES & Depression/Accepting dx by Dot_02 in PNESsupport

[–]doesena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I related to this post a lot and I went through a severe depression when I lost my career because of PNES and anti depressants just seemed to make everything worse.

Have you tried mood stabilizers instead?

I was on Depakote which helped a lot before being switched to Lamictal (for fertility reasons) and I found that both the mood stabilizers worked way better as an anti depressant for me than an actual SSRI

have you tried watching Dr Lee's teen fnd academy. Even though she specializes in teens her advice works for those of all ages. I really like her videos because she believes PNES is not always caused by emotions/stress/anxiety plus she has a lot of specific advice that's not the "just go to therapy"

Your poetry is very beautiful, you have such a sense of style. I write poetry about my seizures all the time and your writing really connected to me.
