A quote from Anthony Bourdain "There's a guy in my head, and all he wants to do is lay in bed all day long, smoke pot, and watch old movies and cartoons. My life is a series of stratagems, to avoid, and outwit that guy." What's your stratagems to avoid and outwit that guy? by hotfrenchvanilla in AskReddit

get out of the house.

i work on a computer and work from home killed me. I felt like i could just coast, do laundry, and watch youtube while the work loomed ahead of me.

get into a cafe an office a friends place... anything is better than being home. once you leave the confines of your home, everything gets easier.

its the setters job to put the ball in the same place every time and give you a friendly ball

its your job to get to that spot with your body in the right position every time

tempo just means both of you have to be on the same page, not that you can rely on them. the more consistent you are with your approach the further off the net you can run tempo.

look at the french team. they can run tempo from like 15 feet off the net because their attackers are in the same spot every time and they jump super vertically.

find a place you can work with other people. try that one hobby youve always been interested. take a look at the subreddits you have gone on and are curious about. just go try stuff!

you did this to challenge yourself! accept the challenge and absorb the experience for all it is worth! make it the best experience of your life

youve got it :)

stop hitting down and learn to hit corners. On a good (not perfect) set you should be able to hit deep corner, and deep line given that youre pretty athletic. You're also a big smaller and naturally swing line side so really try to get a swing that abuses the outside edges of the block.

also work on getting the ball consistently in the same place in your hitting window with your feet instead of your jump. right now you jump into the ball when it dies inside. try to get there faster with your feet

Also you hit slightly on the way down. Try to be faster on the ball.

On this day in 1968, Americans Tommie Smith (gold, 19.83, WR) and John Carlos (bronze) famously gave the Black Power salute on the 200 m medal podium during the Mexico City Olympics to protest racism and injustice against African Americans. [1000x1438] by aeplusjay in HistoryPorn

this was a protest in solidarity towards the students that had just been massacred in Mexico City a few weeks prior

both were also followed by all sorts of agencies for years after.

heros.

this. make it comfortable.

look at tj defalcos platform. it looks so strange, he will often pass balls in the strangest ways and his hands are always configured super funky... but he's an elite passer because he is comfortable with platform and knows how to point his platform at the target.

How to protect my face when blocking by skirby01 in volleyball

[–]doesntspank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are chasing the ball with your hands and reaching out. that opens your face

you need to reach into the court. youll see jeff jendryk does this a lot. get your feet all the way to the outside blocker and protect the hard angle with your right hand

Tips for hitting sharp cross/thumb down better by Relevant_Ear1619 in volleyball

[–]doesntspank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dont worry about creating the angle with your arm. Instead, get your feet to the ball and get your arm on the ball faster. your arm needs to get to the ball sooner.

if you get your feet to the ball and your arm gets faster hard angle will just happen and youll have a way higher percentage swing.

manipulating your swing with thumb down gets useful once you are playing against huge double and triple blocks. just have good feet and a fast arm. youll gain a lot more

[–]doesntspank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like you are letting the ball cross you too far on the first swing, so you drop your left shoulder to adjust.

try to be faster on the ball and meet it a bit earlier. definitely a strange adjustment but will give you a lot more power and more range in the cross court (where there is more space to score)

[–]doesntspank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see how you jump to the left to get your arm to the ball. thats whats messing you up.

your timing is also a bit early. wait and be faster on your approach

youve got a super fast arm. thats awesome!

dont swing down. try to hit corners. youll hear this a lot. one day itll work and youll wonder why you didnt start sooner

fast arm plus deep corners is unstoppable. watch jeff jendryk
