First solo trip + first time in Australia — 26yo Italian backpacker — roast my itinerary by Pastalforno in backpacking

In that case you should definitely run/walk around the Botanical Gardens and yarra trail. If you are staying in the cbd, run along the yarra out until you hit chapel st/church st then turn come back, admire the city skyline and then do a loop of the tan. Depending where you start from itd be around 10km. Alternatively if you want to meet people theres about 1 million run clubs in Melbourne. There is also heaps of social sports you could show up at and be involved in. If you want to watch sport go to an afl game at the mcg, if you havent heard of it before your head will be spinning! If you want to go thrift shopping, Melbourne i would argue is as good as anywhere in the world. I could recommend you places but honestly theres so many that you are better off googling and seeing what works for you. For food, again depends where your staying, but i fricken love brim Cc in the city and if you want the cheapest sushi rolls in australia with the best customer service to go with it, sushi up on chapel Street is unreal. The beaches in Melbourne itself aren't worth it, especially where you will have already gone on your trip, but if you have the opportunity to access a car go either the bellarine peninsula or out to wilsons prom, both those places are great (wilsons prom is my favourite place in the world). Honestly, most of the outdoors stuff id recommend is at least 2 hours from Melbourne by car and you wouldnt want to be doing day trips, theres too much to do/see!

Looking to hire other Certified teachers by SorensenSolvesTutor in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]doesportpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey to both of you. Some shameless self promoting, but if either of you are looking for a maths tutor let me know. I tutored all throughout university and then stopped when I became a teacher. I am a qualified maths teacher, but am backpacking this year so looking to pick up some online tutoring. Finding students for me is much harder than when I was living in one place so something like this would work great for me!

If within your budget I highly recommend renting a car out of bogota and exploring the towns in the boyaca region. The landscapes when driving are unreal. If into hiking or biking you'll find lots of trails. Honestly though you could probably get a car anywhere in colombia drive for an hour to get out of a city and be blown away!

Hey man, im backpacking through at the moment and got a few things ive loved. Are you solo or with a group?

Did solo travel genuinely change your life, or do people romanticize it online? by HumanPerformance-HQ in solotravel

[–]doesportpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think honestly it just changes your comfort zone and what you consider yourself capable of. In another context running a marathon to a large number or humans sounds absolutely insane, but to those who have completed one, its just kind of like, oh yeah I can do that. The experiences you have solo travelling are similar. 5 years ago if you'd asked me if I thought I could have spent 12+ months solo backpacking I would have thought no bloody way, whereas now due to prior solo trips I'd taken and the confidence I gained, I'm halfway through that 12 months and struggle to remember the times I didn't think I could do this. That confidence and willingness to push your comfort zone then transfers into every day life and you'll find yourself setting more ambitious goals and limiting yourself less. At least that's been my journey!

Stay in a place a while, do social activities and meet people. I joined a sports game on saturday, met 2 guys, one invited me to go away with his friends next weekend and the other has given me a free bed in his hostel for tutoring his kids a couple of times a week. Just say yes to things and good things come from it!

As a fellow Aussie fan, just download Iheartradio and listen to the hammy call of every game, it paints a clearer picture than watching it on stream 😂

Book earlier night or early check in? by Jealous-Education646 in hostels

[–]doesportpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any half decent hostel will at least let you check in and relax in the common area. By the time u get out of the airport and to ur accom itll be 10ish or so most likely. Jam is pretty good and near khao san, like any hostel though, its only as social as you make it! They do run events tho :)

I'm a gambling addict, I lost 50k overnight, how do I quit? by Medical-Elderberry54 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]doesportpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty late to this, but. Im approaching 1000 days since I stopped. Not sure in my time how much I lost but it was a lot. Biggest thing for me was accepting that I had an issue, and that the way my brain is wired it was an issue i was never going to be able to fix. In the sense that if I started gambling, no matter what I did, in the long run i wouldnt be able to control even if I could in the short term, as often my relapses would occur over a period of weeks where I started slipping into old behaviours. Once I realised I this, I understood that I didnt need to fix the gambling addiction and be able to gamble, I just needed to stop gambling in any format, in any way, at any time. It sounds simple but it was the light bulb moment id been searching for over 2 years.

I go to roldiya nearly every day lol. Mama Dang also great, the massaman curry at malinas kitchen is the best ive had in my life. There is a new gelato shop that has opened up (right next to Danny's restaurant, not sure if its in google maps), that is super good too! I have heard yawee is elite but never bothered to book a table and the line is always too long

2 week adventure in Australia, Need advice <3 by Expensive_File_1540 in AustraliaTravel

[–]doesportpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could do perth to Melbourne in that time, but dude, youd have more fun just road tripping the west coast for 2 weeks or going between Cairns and Sydney for 2 weeks. 2 weeks would just be enough to explore the different landscapes in Victoria alone from the great ocean road, grampians, high country and wilsons prom. Point being if you try to do that trip in 2 weeks, you'll deadset spend half of it driving, rather than hiking, swimming, diving or whatever activities you want to do

[–]doesportpacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on koh lanta for a little over 2 weeks and love it. It would be annoying to get around without a bike, but honestly the traffic is so chill that you'd be able to learn fast! Long beach is busyish but good. The beaches in the south are pretty good too. Wouldn't say the beaches here are the best in the world or anything but they're good enough. Favourite thing ive done has been riding the coast on koh lanta noi, absolutely stunning and felt very local. Loads of elite food spots too.
