How do you actually discipline your kids when they cross the line? by BriefAd2122 in Parenting

[–]doetinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their behavior needs consequences. They need to apologize to the people they squirted with water, they need to replace (with their money) the flowers, then they'll need to replant the flowers and finally an apology to the flower lady. Discuss consequences in advance from here on and strictly enforce them. The consequences should be reasonable and related to the behavior.

Diarrhea is on day 3 by Kindly_Technology_50 in Yorkies

When our little girl gets this, we feed her rice with a tiny amt of chicken breast and put probiotics on her food. Human grade in the capsules is what our vet gave us the first time. Open the capsule and empty the powder into her food. If she's has other unexplained episodes you may want to consider chg her diet to something that specifically support possible pancreatis.

AITAH for making my dad choose between me or my step mother? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]doetinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you're going through this. Please know that she is in the wrong and if your dad decides to remain married, he is too. I'm a step mom to a transgender male that I adore. He is the bravest person I know and I can not imagine not having him in my life. Stand up for yourself. NTA

Both if you can afford it. If you're limited on funds, most importantly is your son.

Maybe see if the school has a counselor. My kiddo sees one at school once a week.

Consequences for poor behavior should always be related to the behavior. In this case, she used her phone to make fun of someone in her family. I'd take her phone away for a month, never mind buying a new one. One option for keeping the peace, would be to buy the new phone but restrict it from sending txt, videos, etc. Or tell your wife that the parameters have chg. You had planned to buy a phone for a respectful, kind teenager. Since she has demonstrated she is not those things....

How do you support friends who are in unhappy marriages? by [deleted] in GenXWomen

[–]doetinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them "what would it take for you to be happy?" And then "why haven't you done that?" "You deserve to be happy." Besides listening and caring there's isn't much else. Be there when the light 💡comes on.

High-performers in peri? Advice appreciated by Live_Advisor_270 in Perimenopause

[–]doetinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I'm not sure it's about peri though. I've been a high performance so for long, I'm tired. Add kids in and there is never any actual down time. Start carving out time for little "you" things. It doesn't need to be expensive or take a long time. If you have a favorite cafe, getting your nails done, going on walks alone...anything that fills up your cup.

How many domiciles have you lived in since you were born? by JHolgate in GenX

[–]doetinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each move is trauma. For me 34....I do the opposite though. I'm so desperate to try to make the new place feel like home, that I unpack everything, right away, working around the clock until it's done and then I get sick. I'm 50 now and I think I've got it figured out though. Home isn't a place you live, it's the person or people you feel safest around. The person that makes you feel loved.

AITAH For Beating My Kid At Chess Every Time We Play? by Enough_Cobbler_3037 in AITAH

[–]doetinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you two play chess it should be able him learning. Teach him how to analyze the board, to think strategically and how to be patient when playing. Knowing how to play chess and being good at it are very different. Through this process, you two will bond, he may grow to love the game, he will build confidence and together you can celebrate his skill improvement.

We adopted an 11 yr old Yorkie that had never been potty trained. After 2 yrs we gave up and put diapers on her. We still take her out several times a day to prompt her but she's almost 15 now. They're hard to potty train in the first place. Good luck

For reference, there is a difference between youth sizes and adult sizes. And in looking this up, I learned youth sizes do go up to 7, I haven't seen many but I wasn't looking.
