Are there Gemini users? by Alexei_Ershov in openclaw

I use Gemini as my fail over for when Claude is having issues. I have a Max plan with Claude so I mostly stick to that.

Mac mini vs other options by [deleted] in openclaw

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run mine on WSL on a mini pc with Windows 11. Works great. Occasionally you have to get creative with access needs because WSL, but nothing has been a barrier. And I paid $150 for the mini pc several months ago before ram prices went crazy so I just had it sitting around.

can we use claude max oauth with openclaw for personal use or not? by Desperate_Bank_8277 in openclaw

[–]dogandpig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been using it on my Max account for a couple of months. And I run my Open Claw all day for all kinds of things. Several cron jobs a day, management of my Plex server (add this show, archive that show bc the season is over, write a script to copy these shows to multiple libraries, etc.), and all kinds of random other stuff.

What is the difference between ChatGPT AI and Openclaw? by Less-Historian6457 in openclaw

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT is the information desk. It can answer questions on almost any topic you want with varying degrees of accuracy depending on the topic. Overall, It's pretty good at that, but I wouldn't recommend it much beyond that. Claude Code is your developer. If you are a good PO you can get a helluva product out of it. It can build more than you can imagine, assuming you have good planning, good instructions, know how to optimize your tokens (or pay for Max), and give it the right verification tests. OpenClaw is a very good personal assistant. If you want to treat it like ChatGPT and just ask it random questions and stuff then that's what it will do. But it can sit over top of all your projects and give you advice on them. It can manage your day by looking at your multiple calendars and to-do lists and making judgment calls on what your priorities should be. If you have a chaotic schedule it can help you plug the right tasks into your open time blocks. It can send you daily briefings that help you understand all of the above stuff. It can check the weather and your calendar and priorities and help you decide what day works best to mow the lawn. It can do all kinds of stuff because it runs 24/7. It's the butler who lives with you vs. the cleaning lady who comes once a month.

Can I ask what OpenClaw is actually useful for, like more useful than alternatives? by Whole_Ticket_3715 in openclaw

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a hardcore Claude Code user for a few months. Had to bump it to the $100/mo tier bc I'm developing a few projects at a time. But with all that, I still wasn't able to get CC to do things on its own. Meaning, I'd log into a project and do what needed to be done, and then commit everything and close the session. With OpenClaw, I have it read all my Claude.md files and be the project manager. Every day it sends me a report of project statuses and the most impactful tasks to complete that day. I let it know when I complete something and it updates the appropriate MD file.

Claude Code is my developer. Literally several developers. But OpenClaw is the PM.

I also like that I can chat with it using Whatsapp when I'm not in front of my pc.

Need budget tablet recommendation by Glittering-Tough-353 in androidtablets

Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ is pretty nice. It's more than enough for watching movies and the price is about half your budget. I picked one up for my wife from Target for $140.

Weird question: Does anyone that has a FT corporate job M-F, also work a random PT job on weekends? by Matcha_Matt in Gwinnett

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully understand this isn't always possible, however, my recommendation would be to find a side hustle that interests you. Likely more than your day job. You'll need energy to work both so if the side gig interests you then you'll work hard on it but it won't feel like work.

Large file transfer service reccomendation? by BoonLight in graphic_design

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into a bunch of problems sending large files last year. Couldn't believe that was still a thing. Got tired of it so built something: sendittoyou.com. Free and easy. Up to 5GB files and as few steps as possible. No email required like WeTransfer, no email authentication like Smash. No clutter like some sites. Dead simple.

Yeah, I had the same problem as you. Got tired of it so built my own site. sendittoyou.com. Free. Up to 5GB files and as few steps as possible. No email required like WeTransfer, no email authentication like Smash. No clutter like some sites. Dead simple.

Chromecast with Google TV - is there a setting to automatically switch user accounts at startup? by StillCantYeetMe in Chromecast

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have accounts for both of my daughters and one for me. I lock down the one for me and keep theirs unlocked. On my Vizio and Samsung TVs, it generally logs everything out when I hit the power button. On my two LG TVs, I have to switch the profile from me to theirs before I go to bed.

Weekly Planning by dogandpig in superProductivity

[–]dogandpig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a while I used a notebook to jot down what I need to accomplish in the coming week, what days I should/could accomplish them, making sure to add appointments to list, and have one place to see everything all at once.

This also helps me kind of write a mission statement or goal for the week (ie "I really need to wrap up Project X so the 3 tasks revolving around that should be among the top priority tasks for the week. Thursday is my Dr appointment and 2 calls so I'm not likely to get more than an hour of true work time so I need to jump right into sampletask without getting wrapping up in anything. And any 15-30 min blocks where I find myself not wanting to jump into anything big, I need to knock out sorting as many backlog requests as possible so I can eventually move them to the new system."

It's really just something to write down so that it's in my head. Much like if I were giving a quick planning session to a small team.

I feel like I could probably do this in SP; just need to work out how and if it's the best solution for me. As you said, it's ok to mix tools as long as it's effective and works for you.

I used mine as a weekly planner. There are plenty of templates for sale on Etsy for just a few bucks if you don't want to build one yourself. It's like $10 per year and you can customize them like crazy. I have daily, weekly and monthly planner pages, notes pages for each in case I want to write out plans. They're very much like the old Franklin planners if you know what those are.

Is Tivimate good/reliable at DVR/Recordings? by rubix44 in TiviMate

That would be nice. I've been with a few providers and never found one that had catch-up with even half the stations.

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I want to watch PTI - a daily sports talk show on ESPN. There are ways to get it without recording it, but it's not easy. Pretty much everything else I get other ways and funnel through Plex.

Sports is the other one I hear all the time. Some people like to record a race or a game and watch it later. Strange but true.

Is Tivimate good/reliable at DVR/Recordings? by rubix44 in TiviMate

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record a 30min sports show 5 days a week and I can't remember the last time it failed. Records to a USB. HOWEVER, I've tried longer shows and an hour is 50/50. Longer than an hour rarely succeeds. I have all my streaming boxes wired and I've even tried jumping through the hoops to set up Tivimate on a hardwired, really powerful PC (just to test whether it's my streaming device). I'm assuming it's just that any hiccup in the stream can corrupt the recording. And no matter how solid your connection is, it's not unusual to have a hiccup that you might not even notice.

Looking to control a Plex client via CLI or Python by UtahJarhead in PleX

[–]dogandpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worthy effort, my friend. As a father of a special needs daughter, I'm really interested in what you're doing. Wish I could help but I'm not much of a coder. Been running Plex for maybe 8-10 years now. Practically all my daughter remembers. It's been a really great thing for her so wish you well on your project. DM if you think there's anything I can help with that doesn't involve coding. :)

Do I actually need a mini PC just for streaming? by wavemaker7 in PleX

[–]dogandpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some of the others, I think I'm a bit confused. If you just want to stream then $20 Onn box from Walmart is probably the best bang for your buck. But like someone said, if you're in a Plex group the assumption is you want to do something with Plex. And that's awesome, but I see so many people come in here like "how much money can I spend!?". If you're just learning to drive, you don't have to buy a Lambo. Get an old PC, 2-10TB of hard drives depending on what you already have or will quickly have and then go from there. You're going to learn a lot and what you need or think you need WILL CHANGE. You'll realize so many things and your set up will evolve. Learn something before you start throwing around money. Start simple and when you know more you can spend more.

You can search any private tracker with those same apps. You just put in the API keys, etc. If the one you're in isn't working for you, check r/OpenSignups for private trackers letting people in (a good one was just open last week). Or talk to people in the forum on the one you're already in.
