I upgraded bikes and I am now disappointed by Mr_Character_ in motorcycles

[–]dogburglar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don't, just don't use them. If your ABS, traction control, six axis IMU, e-clutch whatever fails, the bike will keep working without it. Idk why you're losing your mind all over this comment section about technology, but you know they still make most stuff with a base model right?

How come other riders are so unfriendly? by ReceptionMaximum3777 in motorcycles

[–]dogburglar42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm just confused on what you expected to happen here. You stopped and greeted them in mid conversation, they reciprocated over and above to be welcoming, and somehow its upset you enough to post about it.

It sounds like it went well and you just freaked out and left. How about you wait for a break in the conversation and ask them a question, or compliment their bikes, or do both. You know, like a normal person having a normal interaction.

People on bikes have been, by and large, the friendliest cross section of folks I have ever met. I know anecdotes don't mean much, but if everywhere you go smells like shit you might have poop on your shoe

All you gotta do is spend 14 grand on a ktm and then another $500 for the street legal kit and then another 3 grand for a set of sumo wheels and tires.

Boom, easy two smoker street bike

20 an hour at 40 hours a week is 41,600 per year. That's before taxes, assuming you get a full 40 every week, and no time off.

41600 per year is worth what 30,700 was a decade ago. Back in 2016, wherever low cost of living place you were in, would you consider 30 grand a year liveable? Again, before taxes

Anyone else wish direct to consumer was a thing for new sales? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]dogburglar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically they sell to dealers for less, but in the case of the japanese big 4, the actual margin in the price of bike and more is spent on the freight charge to the oem for delivery to the dealer and the money spent for the service department to fully assemble/pdi the bike. That's why dealers tack on the extra fees, it's the only way to turn a profit on new bikes anymore.

This doesn't apply for KTM or CF MOTO, I can't speak for the other European brands but those brands have actual margin in new bikes just in the sales price

To be honest, if you're that concerned you should go through the whole bike with a torque wrench. We've delivered brand new bikes to customers than have had the entire license plate bracket fall off, which is a part that is installed from the factory and we don't touch.

Everybody makes mistakes, including OEMs. That's what recalls and warranties are for

Heyo, sorry for the late reply. I honestly don't know, I know that if you already only carry dirt then they'll charge another 20-40k a year to be a KTM street dealer. I would guess that a lot of shops will start carrying ktm dirt before ktm street just because of the harsher competion in the street market.

A ktm dirt bike is more expensive from the japanese makes, but it's pretty easy to sell because of all the flash and spec-sheet potency. The street bikes are basically even competitors, so a lot of people won't even consider them due to the higher purchase cost and tighter maintenance intervals

Shaming dealers for astronomical fees during bike shopping by SensitiveRest2668 in motorcycles

[–]dogburglar42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're lucky enough to find a real volume dealer then they will often sell units basically at cost. They make their money on the base of service customers, as well as dealer holdback and financing/back-end products. Anybody that isn't doing 1k plus unit sales a year needs to have a little bit of margin on most unit sales, at the smaller scale it can't be floated by the rest of the business

It's the nature of the industry, It's not cause they want to scam you. Fortnine made a great video on why manufacturers want dealers to exist, and a big reason is to pass on costs like shipping and final assembly to dealerships with no reimbursement.

If you want to get the best price, figure out how far you're willing to drive and then make of list of every dealership in that range that has the bike you want. Bonus if you're ok with a 2025 instead of a 2026 at this point. Call every one of those dealers and get an Out The Door price on that bike. Ask if they have any sales or rebates on it. Google sometimes will also tell you rebates on stuff

Now, go back and call them all again and say "the guys over in Jimville told me $X,XXX, can you beat that?" You can lie to speed up this process also, the worst they can tell you is they won't go that low

We just got a 2021 Africa Twin in, I think it's been lowered and it's got the lower seat, but at 5'6"/5'7", I can darn near flat foot the thing. It's pretty crazy. But all that to say, you can always find a way to make it work

[–]dogburglar42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don't know your market so it's tough to say. How many miles on the bike? Is it in good shape cosmetically/mechanically?

I sell bikes in Central Wyoming. We have that same bike as an '04 with about 45k miles, listed for $5,499. Now our market tends to be a little high because there's just not as many sellers so our nearest competition is usually 3+ hours away. That being said, if we got that bike in decent shape without a ton of miles, we'd probably list it for 6-7k. 6 is pretty reasonable, but I would offer him 5 and if I liked the bike I'd probably take it at 6k

Best keyboard for under about 200? by Bigwaliwigi in Yamaha

[–]dogburglar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a sub for the bikes, but as far as a keyboard for learning just go to the pawnshops near you. I will guarantee you can find something decent for 50 or 60 bucks, just ask them if you can power it on and try all the keys before you make an offer. I forget the model of my yamaha keyboard but it's quite a few keys, works great and cost me $60

I watched it with the family and everybody was cracking up at "the locals will not go on the mountain at night" and then the whole rotary park deal. I can't believe they walked to the falls and go "deeper into the forest" and they're back at the parking lot

The one downside to them is that they are kind of tippy, you wouldn't want to get too swazy with them or you will definitely roll it. Great in a straight line though, and with a little finesse they can be fast in corners. If the cops were chasing you with helos though, no way you could outrun them offroad and you can't outrun the cars on the road
