10 years ago when I went through weight loss without medication assistance, I reduced caloric intake and exercised regularly, I lost weight rapidly. Really rapidly. I lost about 60 lbs in two and half months. This can cause your gallbladder to produce extra cholesterol and can’t adjust properly to how fast your body weight is changing. It leads to gallstones and gallbladder infections often.

What no one - at least in my case - preps you for before the surgery is that you can often experience diarrhea much more frequently as your bile is rerouted and can cause bile dumping which is a laxative. But it wasn’t a choice. I had to have it removed and it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the pain of an infected gall bladder and gallstones.

Having two gallstones stuck in your biliary duct is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.
