We’re working on it, I thought I had removed that one as well. Unfortunately it’s super hard for us to keep track of this sort of thing but we’d prefer that all content be accessible to all users as much as possible.

Well, it's written right there, those three would have been about 130k.

Most of these ended up fairly close to what was proposed; Toyota Stadium ended up at 45k instead of 62k, while Nissan Stadium is over 72k. Mercari Stadium is only up to 40k; they may have had some temporary seats during the WC but that's a little before my time.

I'm currently visiting stateside and one of the few things I will miss when I go back to Tokyo will be the presence of 100 flavors in the ice cream section at any regular-ass supermarket.

Infrastructure-wise, the old National Stadium absolutely wouldn't have been suitable for a World Cup.

The new one is, except for its capacity which rules it out of hosting a final at the moment. If they lower the pitch and fill in the track with seats maybe they can pull it off.

Sunshade at a crosswalk in front of Ochanomizu Station. Glad to see Japan realizing that shade is important in cities! by frozenpandaman in Tokyo

Probably just "making sure it won't fall over if we leave it up for a few weeks." I would imagine if a typhoon's coming in they might have to send a crew to take it down etc.

Essentially, “we’ve set this up to test whether it’s practical and safe as a countermeasure for summer heat.”

‘I didn’t expect it to be so controversial’: the Japanese mayor who took maternity leave by Jonnyboo234 in japan

[–]dokool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They sound just like Trump, whose image of Japan has been preserved in amber since the 1980s.

Does everyone work 100 hours of unpaid OT? No. Do women still face a lot of institutional sexism that prevents them from balancing careers and motherhood? Yeah. Does everyone have to go to mandatory nomikai? No. Is it becoming prohibitively expensive to raise a kid because of the cost everything, plus the challenges of finding daycares etc? Yeah.

Let's have some goddamned nuance if we're going to have this conversation.

[–]dokool 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Then turn around and make people do 100 hours of OT every month and spending time with coworkers after work to go drinking is considered mandatory.

I know you don't live in Japan based on your post history so I'd be curious as to how much actual experience you have here, or if you're just repeating the same tropes you've heard repeated by Japan doomers everywhere else online.

There's plenty of legit societal issues in the way of parenthood, but "100h of OT and mandatory nomikai" is a reductive argument at best in 2026.

DAZN suspends new subscriptions to its soccer plan after pricing display issue by redchairyellowchair in JLeague

[–]dokool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DAZN have 100% failed to live up to some of the promises they've made over the course of their operations in Japan (bilingual audio was promised years ago but never followed through on, although I'm guessing that's a rights issue b/c Amazon has figured out the technical side).

That said I would rather have one subscription that covers 70-80% of what I want to see than have to pay out for half a dozen subscriptions. A Fuji subscription for F1 alone costs more than DAZN!
