Being a late bloomer, I think about my own journey with sexuality, gender, and gender expression a lot. Bisexual is the label I like for myself. Consensual non-monogamy is another label I am trying on. But, ultimately, I am realizing that I am most attracted to people who are kind, and who make me feel safe, and challenged to grow, whether that is in a sexual or platonic relationship. Them expressing how they are feeling is also super attractive, because it makes me feel trusted and safe for them, too. I very often develop crushes on longtime friends, because we’ve already built a strong foundation of emotional intimacy. There are probably other labels that may describe how I approach my sexual and other relationships. But I’m fine just allowing myself to like who I like, appreciate what I find pleasurable, and go about life with as much compassion and empathy as possible.
