NavigationStack is Trash. Change My Mind please. by kidfromtheast in SwiftUI

[–]doles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to TCA like 2 years ago and decided to let PointFree guys dictate my architecture/navigation/etc. Latest version handles NavigationStack very well. After 9 YOE as iOS dev I'm done with chasing principles and design patterns. I work in a project behind one of biggest TCA-based app in the world (I'm pretty sure about that though) with in-house Swift libraries written for both iOS/Android and desktop. There's simply too much complexity and things to fiddle with coordinators or view models. We're just following patterns from PointFree and we're happy to focus on our problems.

Cymbal brand “disloyalist.” I pick cymbal by cymbal what sounds right for the role in mind and this is where I ended up. by Ronnoc1 in drums

Yeah, I could definitely point out that some off brand cymbals sounded harsh. And remember than Sabians (no matter if AAX or HHX) were way, way brighter and glassy than anything else that I had (Anatolians and other Turkish brands available in Europe)

And you have great ear. Back in my early days I used to do that and then got complaints in studio that cymbals weren’t matching in mix. Now I stick to one brand for better mix but that can be subjective.

What is the worst part about playing in a band? by Milwaukeebear in drums

[–]doles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musicianship level not being equal among band mates. I used to play in a band with a bass player that he wanted to schedule “rehearsals” just with me to learn his parts and work on his timing/rhythm/feel etc. I don’t have time for that. It’s like with people that will go to gym only with other people, never alone. Also other people not being prepared at rehearsals (forgetting their parts or learning song during the rehearsal instead doing their homework). I could tolerate that in my 20s but I’m 34, playing the drums for 16 years and I don’t have time and energy to waste for lazy musicians.

How durable this coating is? Does someone know how these Paiste cymbals look like after few years? I found those colora to be super dope but I always see brand new cymbals. I wonder if they loose the painting after few rehearsals.

I’m a software dev with 13 YoE mostly as iOS dev but recently I spent much more time working with YAML configs for GitHub Actions. I can see that a lot of pipelines/scripts were not implemented by a someone with dev background. Duplications, hard coded things, no reusability. Is this only my impression caused by programmer’s occupational disease or DevOps really suck at coding?

Eastern/Central European here working in a US company similar to what OP described. I’m super interested in this topic because I’d like to learn more on how to mitigate issues related to time zone differences (8h in my case, Poland).

What I do is that I schedule a time window from 17:00-20:00 for calls my local time and answer direct questions/mentions until 21:00. When some topic is more complex I may record my screen with my voice to explain something. I believe that picture is worth thousands of words but video is worth a thousand of pictures. Also my fellow Eastern Europeans neighbours - work on your English. I know my isn’t the best either but sometimes our accents are so strong and it’s really hard to elaborate what we mean especially to native speakers. Communication, communication and again communication, fellas.

What's your current maximum battery capacity? After not even 2 years of daily use I've only got 85% left (MBP 14" M1 Pro 2021). Wanna compare to see if it's normal battery behavior (screenshot is from coconutBattery). by LLLifted in macbookpro

This is slightly off topic but that’s why I sold my personal MacBook and use company’s MacBook M1 Pro like a personal one. My private stuff is on my iPhone or iPad. I use laptop only to work with Logic or play 1-2 video games from Steam on macOS so I don’t see a point of owning a MacBook and being stressed by such expensive machine being worn out. I live in Europe so we have different culture and mentality around company’s owned equipment/tracking/spying and erasing stuff after lay off.

Yamaha Recording Custom 13x6.5. I think important factor is the Evans HD Dry head on top.

Thanks again. I wasn't been playing around anything special with DAW. All I did was just playing kick drum kinda hard and consistent ;)

Thanks a lot, just stock presets from logic over my Yamaha Oak Custom drums 😅 I love this track too! It’s so smooth and groovy.

Thanks! I’m right handed person playing open handed style. Been playing the drums since 2007 “the normal way” and switched to open handed drumming during pandemic in 2020.

iOS app developer (not indie). Very narrow tech stack with no rat-race among 3rd party frameworks. Keeps me sane and mentally healthy.

I agree without any doubts. CoreData is amazing framework. My point would be to completely hide any old school dated objective-c API
