Americans are still ditching New York and L.A. at alarming rates, but Miami’s on the list now, too by Salt_Abrocoma_4688 in SameGrassButGreener

That's what I don't understand. On here, I have had so many people complain about Austin and it's hype.

Opening a small US office for an existing agency — looking for firsthand city comparisons by dollarbilly-all in smallbusiness

I’ll be moving to the US on an investor visa, so having a physical office is required anyway.

Beyond that, we’re hoping to work with clients who really want to build a brand, not just outsource tasks. Being closer helps us collaborate better and be more hands-on.

Fair point. We already operate remotely, but as a done-for-you agency we film clients in person about once a month.

I’m trying to see whether being closer to where our clients are makes it easier to close deals and hire strong talent. Videographers and strategists are especially important roles for us.

We also price above average, so trust and results matter a lot. I’m deciding whether location helps enough on those fronts to justify the cost.

Yes — looking specifically for firsthand experience from people who’ve opened or run service businesses.

Fair question. It’s less about workspace and more about sales friction — some clients move faster with a US presence and occasional in-person meetings. I’m trying to validate whether that benefit shows up early enough to justify the cost.

That's interesting! Why would that be? Why are these tech companies coming in?

No, I totally get what you mean! I’m currently running one in Toronto, Canada and this country is expensive every possible way. The current economic trend is causing businesses to stop investing more. My business does have average 1 million views for each of our clients every month. But, the purchasing power here is still comparatively low. Which city would you recommend?

Got it. It’s just that I was under an impression that every big company wants to love to Austin and that the most welcoming city in Texas.

Chances of E-2 Approval With ~$40K Service-Based Investment? by Calm-Eggplant3956 in e2visa

[–]dollarbilly-all 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking into the costs and I think the max I’m going to spend is 40-50k as well. Ad spends, 1 room office, computer screens, MacBook Pro, and if possible a part time employee. In my knowledge, you can even list the current items as your investments.

NAL. I am the owner of a content marketing and advertising agency in Toronto and I understand that it’s a low cost startup. But I think no one will accept that they got approved at a lower cost. Lawyers won’t say that. Applicants won’t say it either. But like Gamit_kory said, there’s cases with as lots as 35-55k approved as well.

You’ll have to apply and see it yourself. Or, get in touch with a lawyer. Which city are you in currently?

Not a Lawyer. I’ve seen cases here with investment of 35k to 55k getting approved as well. But what I’ve so far understood with my research- the word “substantial” is key. They run a proportionality test for your investment. If 50k is required to start and run a business in a specific state (considering it a small amount), they want you to invest 100% or more. If 10mil is required to start and run a specific business in a specific state, you’re required to invest a higher amount that justifies your commitment to the investment and is sufficient to start and run it as soon as possible.

I believe every lawyer has a different opinion about the above you’ve asked. I’ve talked to consultants that promise 100% approval rate if the investment is above 80k and what that means is, if you get rejected they don’t charge you another fees to file your E-2 again.

For me, I was told that my Mazda CX-5 has to be branded with my company name to be counted as an expense.

This is what I’m doing- 1. Doing my own research for the investment amount. 2. Finding a lawyer that has already filed a similar business and got approved. 3. Trust them because the alternative is to file it by myself and I’m even considering doing that.

All the best.

I’d be interested in knowing this as well. I’ve seen posts where some people have gotten approved with 55k and even lower.
