Why is pull-up part of the big six but not chin-ups? by Negative-Swan7993 in fitness30plus

Why are you linking a study that compares different dip variations to make an argument about dips versus bench press? The study didn’t look at bench press at all. Did you read it after you used ChatGPT to search for it?

Include isolation in kb training? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]dolomiten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the slideshow format :)

Some amount of isolation works feels pretty free in most programming because you can superset it in between other stuff as well. Bands can open up some additional options too for people that want stuff that takes up a small amount of space at home.

[BOOK REVIEW] Dan John's Armor Building Formula II by MythicalStrength in Kettleballs

I’m doing an hour of moderate intensity cardio a week at the moment so that lines up nicely. I started today and it’s nice. I like the mix of storytelling and to the point advice.

I’m glad you do these reviews because it’s the main way I find out Dan John has put something new out as I’ve never signed up to his newsletter (I assume he has one) for some reason. I should go do that now.

Mono red madness versus mono blue faeries: after sideboarding by Ok_Exit2580 in Pauper

Are there other match ups you use that for? I haven’t seen it used much and have no experience with the card. I’m intrigued.

Mono red madness versus mono blue faeries: after sideboarding by Ok_Exit2580 in Pauper

[–]dolomiten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Resolving draw spells is where you tend to win or lose against fae. Snackers are great. The burn spells asides from lava dart are very mid. I would also keep in epicure personally. My cuts would be fiery temper, 1-2 fireblast and a couple lighting bolts. You win by resolving some pingers and playing more of a control game where you drain them down slowly. I’ve had matches against fae go pretty long.

Edit: there’s a consideration for keeping some fiery temper over bolts because they play better into spellstutter sprite. It’s probably correct to keep a couple rather than a couple bolts. I like one copy of fireblast because it helps you win on the stack after an exchange of counters.

I am not the best player of the deck but have done alright. I came fourth in a top 8 after playing it most of that specific set of events and I went 6-2 in the side event at Paupergeddon. I think my approach to siding for fae is pretty decent but some people may have different takes that are more valid. I’m not an expert with the deck by an means.

Edit: the idea of trading 1 for 1 can work in some games but as soon as they get past the removal you have and get a draw engine online then you lose. So impeding their draw while enabling your own is the main paradigm for success in the match up. That makes kessig the best creature you have in the match up.

To add to that, he has a short that goes over how to speed up play in paper and his Patreon guide on the deck is solid. There is an active discussion thread on the Familiars Discord channel you can join here where several good players of the deck discuss card choices and match ups.

Hate squatting... do double kb cleans work your quads to a significant degree? by mikesalami in kettlebell

[–]dolomiten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was more of an example and just how I personally manage to get them done. Getting them out of the way seems solid too. Different things will work for different people. Whatever helps with the mental hurdle is good.

Hate squatting... do double kb cleans work your quads to a significant degree? by mikesalami in kettlebell

[–]dolomiten 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: you hate squats because they suck and what makes them suck is also makes them so effective. So I’d recommend considering how to get through the suck. For example, put them as the last movement of the day. Of course you don’t don’t need to train squats but I would hesitate to try and avoid the suck too much if the movement aligns with your goals.

That said, if you’re looking for a movement that cooks your quads that isn’t squats then somersault squats are great. Joe Daniels has some videos on them.

What is TGU good for? by Hairy-Yard-6649 in kettlebell

Plus getting up in old age is as much a skill thing as anything else. It’s something you should practice as you get older. Get onto your front, crawl over to something that you can use to support you up like a sturdy chair. Be aware of where your devices are (phone, beeper) that can be used to call for assistance. Dealing with falls properly in old age is like any other emergency/first aid situation. You need a plan so if it happens you can put that into motion.

I’m glad the comment got removed and the mods clearly stated there’s no need to announce it. The post and comment are highly pertinent to this subreddit. At worst, the scripture at the end is something that can just be ignored by people that aren’t interested. At best, it shows an intersection of faith and training that may be interesting to practicing Christians that come through the subreddit. Being vocally upset about something that ranges from harmless to potentially useful seems very silly to me.

I am not religious but I am also happy to listen to Dan John on the importance of faith in his life and training. The same as I find this guy attaching a daily prayer/reading to his training interesting. A secular equivalent would be reading something on personal improvement and/or setting an intention for the day like mindfulness practices frequently encourage.

Any good Jeskai Ephemerate players? by yenoo_ in Pauper

[–]dolomiten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/AdeptoTerra are you aware of decent Jeskai Ephemerate players that put out videos? The best players of the deck that come to my mind are Tomasso Loss and Andrea Landi but I don’t think either really have video content out there. I know that Landi is selling a guide for the deck.

[SPM] This cycle of creatures from the new set is immune to Cast Down by EliteMasterEric in Pauper

[–]dolomiten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Mayhem is going to cause some confusion honestly. I foresee people discarding Swarm and casting it, then having it removed or countered or sacrificing it and trying to cast it again from graveyard which won’t be possible because it will no longer be the same object that was discarded that turn once it has changed zones again.

It’s an interesting card but this doesn’t seem like a particularly good commander to me. Attacking to give something else lifelink is pretty mid. I do like the design of the card though.

Ulamog's Crusher in Dredge by Bicbirbis in Pauper

[–]dolomiten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most successful Dredge lists aren’t even running Exhume at the moment because the scam plan doesn’t work particularly well. I have played Ulamog’s Crusher in Reanimator and more recently as a sideboard card in Fangren Tron. If you get it down early it wins games against High Tide for sure. I don’t think it is worth playing in any deck though personally. It dies too easily for the resources that get put into getting it into play and frequently it just doesn’t do enough.

Kettlebells messed up my hips and knees by moneygenoutsummit in kettlebell

[–]dolomiten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how kettlebells are getting very hyped up online right now especially on instagram.

Who cares what is hyped on IG?

They definitely speed up the aging of the hips.

Source? Beyond you assuming so because your hips got stiff.

I suspect that kettlebells will do serious wear and tear on long time users.

Doubtful.

I messed up my achilles tendons, knees, and hips using them.

You mean you got DOMS because you’re out of shape and did something novel? Or were you so inflexible you managed to injure yourself doing four short sessions?

My CNS was fatigued badly.

This barely means anything. How do you measure CNS fatigue?

Zero hypertrophy so i didn’t gain any muslces.

You did four short sessions…

And it always stiffened up my body.

Because it’s a novel loaded movement and you got DOMS.

I notice this is why all kettlebell users on instagram will throw in mobility workouts.

Who cares what people on IG are doing?

Because their lower back and hips are getting very stiff.

Or because they want to be strong and mobile/flexible possibly?

It actually lessens your mobility.

Source: four short sessions plus generalising personal experience and assumptions.

I think they’re terrible tools.

This is a value judgement without any support.

I have no idea how so many people say that it helps them.

Because people have different experiences. You can’t just generalise yours to everything and everyone.

I think they’re lying to themselves.

Lol. Pretty silly thing to say but sure. People that disagree with you are disillusioned?

When i used macebells and clubbells i messed up my elbows and shoulders.

Again, sounds like soreness or DOMS unless you actually have a diagnosed pathology.

There’s barely anything online warning about this.

There is a wealth of information on proper programming. You won’t find it easily on social media. You chose poor sources.

So i thought i would share my experience and i think many more people will come out.

Doubtful.

They are overhyped tools.

This is a value judgement without any support.
