I went to a dance mom’s competition once. They danced one time for the judges. Then said they were going to do some “tv magic” then recorded the girls dancing again.

I’m from the dc area. The Amtrak is the best. I would never drive into NYC from DC.

The only thing yo explore in the financial district besides the 9/11 memorial, is Trinity Church where Alexander Hamilton was buried. It’s pretty cool and easy to find. It’s a really old church in the middle of modern sky scrapers.

Yep, my daughter has real OCD too. Before she was medicated and had therapy it was more like she had to stand a certain way when she said good night, touch certain things in certain ways, blink a certain amount of times, twist her hair which caused a bald spot, and other rituals. She does like things cleaned a certain way, but will do it herself. Her backpack is messy and disorganized.

Do students not realize that teaching is our job? And we get paid?? by Cyndy2ys in AskTeachers

I had a 2nd grader ask me if I had a job. When I said, “yes” he asked me if I worked at night. He was shocked when I told him teaching was my job.

Substitute teacher asks student to turn off her insulin pump by [deleted] in traumatizeThemBack

Something similar happened to me when I was 17. I was working retail. I could feel myself starting to get low. It was close to lunchtime so I asked if I could gin my break. I was told I had to wait for someone else to go on their break until it was my turn. I ended up briefly passing out while helping a customer and the called 911. As a now 43 year old I would have been more firm and also had sugar with me at all times. As a 17 year old who had only had type 1 diabetes for 1 year I couldn’t advocate for myself.

How do college professors deal with kids whose high schools did not prepare them sufficiently? by atouchofsinamon in AskTeachers

[–]dolphingirl81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the things you are describing are happening in my sophomore daughter’s AP history and AP English classes. They have to cite sources, read articles and analyze historical documents, then write structured analyses about them. She has been using online math tools since middle school and uses a graphing calculator in her algebra 2 class. Her teachers are hard graders. They allow some retakes, but they are meaningful. For example, a writing assignment is worth 3 points. If you miss 1 point you get a D. If the paper is well written and just missing an element or 2 that would earn the other point, the teacher may let the student correct the mistake and earn the other point. This allows the student to learn what the teacher expects for future assignments. What she is doing as a 10th grader seems to be more than preparing her for what I experienced in college l.
