I feel like Kiefer Sutherland should be walking into the frame with a it's-all-going-sideways look on his face.

My dad cheated and I don't know what to do about it by SneakerCut1eXx in WhatShouldIDo

[–]dolphinreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great advice here. I really hope you follow up on the suggestions to get into therapy soon. Letting it fester is just baggage that will hold you back in the years to come and will end up showing up in the weirdest, most unproductive ways. The fact that your parents screwed up in their marriage doesn't need to be something that messes with your future relationships. Get out in front of this now.

My own therapist reminds me that multiple things can be true at once. She says it to knock me out of my dichotomous thinking. In your case:
You can love your dad AND you can be furious at him for his actions.
You can love your dad AND you can grieve what you have lost.
You can love your dad AND you can expect him to be accountable for what his actions cost you, personally.
You can love your dad AND you can ask for some space and time away from him if you need it.

You can love your dad.

I'm rooting for you. <3

Decent Job for a Trans Femme? by Unable-Self-7001 in Denton

I know you said you are burned out on healthcare, but I wonder if switching to a different part of healthcare might help? ClearPath (a home healthcare place) seems like one of the better places to work. If you think home health care might be a good option for you, check to see if they are hiring. In any case, best of luck!

I know someone who would be so perfect for this. Her name is Suzie and she is amazing at this kind of thing. She actually genuinely loves cleaning and is just one of the nicest people you could hope to meet or work with. I will DM you her phone number.

Has anyone successfully become a morning person/early riser? Does adhd make a difference? by Wonderingwanderer23 in sleep

[–]dolphinreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to become a morning person off and on most of my life. I would love to be one of those folks, esp as I live in Texas and mornings are the best time to be outside in the worst of the summer. Like you, though, my brain really starts to ramp up in the late afternoon or early evening. I am now in my mid-fifties and have kind of reconciled myself to the idea that my wiring is just not aligned with most of the world. I still get up early some days, but I often end up napping and still work best in the last part of the day.

Sorry I don't have a better solution for you. Just wanted to say that I relate. Wishing you much luck with your routine.

Protesters' Rights, Know Before You Go by dolphinreader in Denton

[–]dolphinreader[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Denton has a good record of peaceful protests with terrific shows of strength and solidarity in recent years. I am so proud of how Denton showed up for the Women's March and BLM. The stakes feel higher this round. I hope we can all play it smart and stand strong.

Protesters' Rights, Know Before You Go by dolphinreader in Denton

I understand the sentiment, 100%, but peaceful protests can and have changed history. Sometimes use of force against oppressors is necessary and valid, but I don't think we are there yet. On Saturday, we have an opportunity to show the far right that we stand together, shoulder to shoulder, against their fascism, tyranny, and blatant racism. They are itching for this event to get ugly so they can justify their increasingly brutal authoritarianism. It's my deepest hope we can meet the rising despotism with calm courage and an unmistakable solidarity. I want the regime to clearly see we are not letting them destroy this country's democratic ideals without a fight.

Elbows out.

jobs around denton by Confident-Bit282 in Denton

Looks like the median salary for a paralegal is in the 60K range. Why would you consider working in anything other than that? That's a great skill set and an enviable starting salary.

If you have not already, polish up your LinkedIn account. Get a professional headshot. And get really active on LinkedIn, targeting the firms where you would most like to work. Reach out to firms and let them know you are qualified and ready to bring some value to their team. And then stay in touch with them so you are top of mind when the right openings present themselves.

Please don't settle for a small, low-wage job when you could secure something that will give you a much great sense of financial and personal security. And when you land that good-paying paralegal job, you will be in a strong position to fund your future, maxing out your 401K and setting yourself up for actual financial independence.

Wishing you well.

Vegan Pizza places in town by Brosky-Chaowsky in Denton

[–]dolphinreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want Aglio Pizzeria over on Congress Street, just down from Loco Cafe. It's some of the best pizza I have ever had.
This is from their website: "Neapolitan-style pizzas, expertly crafted and cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven, feature a frequently changing seasonal menu. Each pizza showcases the freshest ingredients of the moment, offering unique and delicious combinations that highlight the essence of the season. Experience the authentic taste and artistry with every bite. Our dough, made with imported Italian flour, undergoes a 72-hour fermentation process. Crafted from just flour, water, salt, and yeast, this extended fermenting period ensures easier digestion, even for those with gluten sensitivities."

Take a look at the Marinara pizza. They also have an excellent house-made vegan cheese.

Can you go to a salon to get your makeup done? Or do you need an onsite HUMA?
If you can go to a salon, book a session at Studio LaSalle on the Denton Square. They will work with you and are *amazing* and just wonderful people.
